How to Customize the Player Menu in Articulate Storyline

I am having issues with the Previous button. When users jump around in a course, the previous button takes them to where they last were, and not to the previous page from where they are NOW. Can you advise me on how to correct this?

Does this happen on every slide? Did you create any triggers for the Prev button? Check your "Player Triggers" for any problem slides to see if a trigger was created for the Prev button by accident. The default for Prev button is previous slide if no trigger is created.

I have had this problem to and ended up using my own customised Back and Next buttons. Gary, are you saying that you need to create a new trigger for each Prev and Next button? Initially, I tried changing the default trigger but it seemed to just revert back to where you have been last not necessarily the immediate previous slide. Cheers

I think what is being discussed is the behavior of Prev/Next. Some people expect to go to the next page that is connected to your slide. But, if you move around in a course, such as using the menu, and then click Prev or Next, you won't go to the next slide connected to the slide you are on. You go to the slide you were last at. It works like a browser, at least that is the way I understand it. I have run into this issue if users navigate using a menu then click Prev/Next. If they never use a menu, and use Prev/Next the whole way through, they will be fine. It is when you jump around, Prev/Next act as a browser history does. I do get clients that don't like this behavior. I believe if you want to go the the exact Prev or Next slide in the course vs. history, then you need to set that trigger explicitly to the page vs. the default trigger of next slide, which means you also have to add a trigger for each slide for the previous slide to go to.

Thanks Jeff. I have tried re-setting both the Prev and the Next triggers but they still seem to 'revert' back to 'Last' and 'Forward' as you say above. Should I add another explicit trigger for each?

We have a client who is requesting a fix for this. We re-set the Prev and Next triggers and had the same results as Mark above. Mark's question was never answered so I thought I would post it again just in case - - does anyone know of an explicit trigger to add to fix this issue?

i usually just add the trigger: Jump to "select slide" when the user clicks the previous button. this allows you to determine exactly where the user will go when the previous button is selected.
