I was wondering if anyone can help me figure out how to create a wrip effect. meaning I want to make an object look like it is being pushed through the background. The background looks like it is being pushed and wripped open from the back and showing the new. I hope this makes sense.
Assuming he has a photo editor like fireworks or flash. I'm wondering if the page curl tutorial David made along with Jeanette's tutorial on shape subtract could not be used in combination to create this effect?
I don't know if you saw Mike's Screenr on how he put his together: https://player.vimeo.com/video/204930197, but my process was similar. I didn't use a hexagon shape like Mike, but the rest of the process was similar.
I should have noted in the Screenr, that for a more realistic effect, one should really make note of David's PowerPoint and draw each tear individually instead of copying and pasting as I did. David's approach gives it a more organic feel.
After re-watching your Screenr and comparing with my results, I found one detail that I think makes both look even better: soft edge shape on the bottom layer. There would be some shadow or shading from the expanded tears. I used a circle since I wasn't about to add each shadow individually

Hey Eric - I took a quick pass at it in PowerPoint. If this is along the lines of what you're looking for, I'm more than happy to refine a bit more.
I used the Freeform tool and played around with 3-stop gradients.
