I belong to several groups on LinkedIn and we get some interesting discussions going about Flash and the future of HTML5. I often speak up on behalf of Storyline, in that it's amazing what you can do with some of the advanced features. I had to put my money where my mouth was though when several people started looking for alternatives to Storyline so they could do Flash like interactions, such as a Scrolling Timeline.
It took almost every advanced feature Storyline has but I think the effort was worth it. See what you think on Try it out at Scrolling Timeline
but I think it may be a bit disingenuous to say it used every advanced feature in storyline, I think it is achievable in three layers plus a layer for each date.
I don't know enough about SL to say whether you used all the advanced features or not. I like what you did and I know I will use your ideas. Glad you were able to work it out and share.
Jacinta: thanks for sharing the demo and for mentioning Storyline in the discussions. I assume that the arrow buttons are linking to animated slide layers.
The cool thing with Storyline is that there are always a number of ways to approach interactive content. It would be interesting to see how someone else would have crafted something similar.

Jacinta,
That is a nice idea, however, have to agree with Phil - not sure what "advanced features" you have used.
I would say you have proved SL can build this very well.

In the absence of the horizontal scrolling panel I would probably use the zoom region and a bit of smoke and mirrors with hidden slides.
Or add it all into a scrolling panel and have it move vertical instead. with hotspots
Cool demo, Jacinta. I like the textured look of your graphics and timeline.
Thanks for sharing your work with the community!
Great job, Jacinta! It was long due someone used SL to create a nice timeline. Would appreciate if you'd share the .story with everyone
