Need Effective Way to Track Course Completion

Apr 22, 2014

I've created a course for our company employees using Studio 13 (Presenter, Engage, and Quizmaker). We want to load the course to a web server and establish an email notification process, so that when an employee successfully completes the training an email notification is generated to the employee and our training administrator.  The administrator will then update a database designed to keep track of who has completed our various courses. We don't have an LMS so this is how we must track keep track of who is completing training. For us, successfully completing the training means scoring 100% on the final quiz, which is part of the course (not standalone).  Individuals take the quiz as many times as needed to get a final score of 100%.  We understand that the exam results email feature no longer exists in Articulate, but we need some type of comparable workaround that would essentially accomplish the same thing. We're looking for some type of mechanism to trigger an automatic email to our training administrator.  Is anyone aware of any type of file that can be added or script that we can have the training module execute upon successful completion that would generate the email . . . or any other approach that might work?  Thanks.

Hi Randy, not sure if you've looked at/or considered Articulate Online, but maybe this would be a good solution for you. Very easy and basic way to track content created with Studio 13. You can even publish directly to Articulate Online right from within your Studio applications. You might want to consider trying the 30-day free trial to see how it all works, and if it meets your needs... again the trial is completely free, so you can try all of the features and see how easy it is to use.. Hope this helps!

Hi there

I had the same problem - not yet committed to an LMS but needing to make courses available and wanted to track results

If your pass rate is 100% - make sure you have a success page at the end which can only be reached on hitting 100%

Make an "exit course and email results" button - choose the title yourself

Set up 2 triggers on click

1st trigger choose url/mailto and use basic javascript - we use the following

mailto:youremailaddress@blah.com?subject=NameofCourse completed&body=Insert some text here

2nd trigger would be to exit course

This brings up an email addressed properly with the course title from the email address of the person completing the course.

We use text in the body of the email asking the person to confirm their name (in case it is not obvious from the email address) and to make sure and press send to have their success noted.

It is a basic workaround while we find a better way or implement an LMS

Hope this works for you but you will probably want a better solution in the longer term

Thanks

Hi Randy. You could potentially use Jot Form to integrate with your quiz. We had the same situation earlier this year, and this worked pretty well for us!

We actually put our form at the beginning, because we didn't have a tracked quiz at that time. So it simply registered people accessing the course. However, you could easily put it on your results slide. "Enter your name below to receive credit for this course."

You can set up jotform to send you an email every time there is a new entry, but I don't think you would be able to email the learner.

I have the same problem now, but this link does not work. Do you have any idea if it has been moved or changed?
