Working at a public institution, I am always looking for resources for free images to use in elearning, especially people cut-outs....any suggestions?

Hi Mindy and welcome to E-learning Heroes!

We have a really good list of sites in this thread. For cut outs, I don't know if we have any free sites listed.  I typically make my own cut outs either from clip art characters or photos. I agree having a quick resource library would be valuable. Hopefully someone will chime in with some suggestions for those.

Hi Mindy,

I also work for a public agency. Here are a list of some of my favorite free image sites, and a couple of video sites. Just be sure to look for the terms of use for each site, since some require attribution and some do not.  Also, you may find some medical illustrations that are copyrighted and cannot be freely used.

A word of caution.. http://sxc.hu/ may have images that are free but you need to ask permission for use in things you intended to sell. Read the license Agreement. In short it says that they cannot 100% tell you if an image is copyright protected or not and if you decide to use a copyrighted image and you get in trouble for it, it's on you.

The same is true of the 19 Free Cutout people.

They were all photographed without their permission so the risk of that goes to you.

Where images, video and audio are concerned, IMHO (especially when my business relies on them...), I prefer to pay for my content, heck....even the iStock Licencing system is complicated enough!

@mindy

My company runs a stock photo company for the eLearning industry with lots of people cutouts. Feel free to check it out here: eLearningArt.com

The images there are for sale, but there is a set of free images you can grab from the website. Give me another few hours and I'll also post another free download into the Articulate downloads section for the community to use. I've been meaning to do that. Feel free to use any of those downloads in your courses. I'll post again once they're up. Stay tuned.

Best,

Bryan

All- As promised. Here's another set of free e-learning images. I'm releasing these to the Articulate community to use in training courses. In the zip, you'll find:

  • 13 character cutout images
  • 2 background images
  • 2 hand cutouts

Here's the link: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2332114/eLearningArt_GiveAways/eLearningArt.com_FREE_images_Articulate.zip

I hope you enjoy!
