vimeo video as web object

Mar 04, 2014

Hi,

I'm testing out vimeo and storyline looking for an option to be able to toggle a video in the storyline player to full screen - but, I can't get the content to display in slide in the first place.

Does anyone have any idea why I might get this message:

"This content cannot be displayed in a frame.

To help protect the security of information you enter into this website, the publisher of this content does not allow it to be displayed in a frame. "

It gives a link to open the content in a new window - am I missing the obvious?!

Web Object Tools | Options:

Display - Load automatically, Show in slide

Browser - Controls = all controls,  Size = default

Vimeo privacy is set to:

allow anyone to view the video

allow video to be embedded anywhere

The video is HD 1280 x 720 and plays okay on vimeo

The test project is a single slide with the embedded web object.

Storyline output uploaded to server and testing from there not locally.

Thanks.

I've also tried it using add video from website and the vimeo embed code - same result.

Any ideas much appreciated.

Vimeo help says:

Plus and PRO members have the ability to not only embed their videos in glorious HD, but also to default those videos to be viewed in HD. This is a sweet way to make sure that your crisp, high definition videos are seen in their full glory when they're embedded around the interwebs.

Since I am only testing this with a free account, then maybe the problem is that it is an HD clip.

Will try SD and see how it goes.

Karl,

I just tested with a video I have on Vimeo and it seems to be working okay.  I simply took the embed code (iframe) and used the insert video from website feature.  I'm able to open it full screen.

One note...

Are you testing locally or placing your published output online first?  If you're testing locally, try placing it online to see if that changes anything.

Good Luck!

Like Mike says, configuring your video's properties should enable you to bypass the warning message etc you've been seeing.  I can't remember if enabling full screen button is part of the free package - it probably is.

BTW, a Vimeo Pro account is worth looking into if you need to restrict controls even more - it's very good value at $199 or so.

Thanks Michael and Mike.

Mike, I'm also using a basic account and the vimeo privacy settings were the same.

Was the video you used an HD or SD mp4?

Testing is not local but on a live server.

Mike that was what I was expecting to see when I tried it. I saw your reply on the thread here:

I tried with a test HD vid I uploaded and also a random video in case my settings were off - no go wither time.

I have an SD video queuing for encoding on vimeo, and about to do the whole thing again from scratch with a new project.

A while back I had done a test with a Vimeo video and was able to display it in both a Web Object and as an embedded video. See here. Both versions show the control, incl. the fullscreen button. It's been a while, but I do remember that I had to remove the tags and only use the video's URL to make this work in a Web Object.

On the option for the web object, I'm just putting in the URL (http and not https) and going with 'display in slide' and 'load web object automatically'. Are there any other settings?

Re bolded - Do you mean edit tags in the storyline output?

On vimeo, the privacy settings were as Mikes - i.e. open

I thought I'd got it when I spotted I'd used an https url, but http doesn't work either.

This is probably going to be something really obvious -but I don't see it at the moment!

Hi Karl, in my test, I extracted the video's URL from the iframe-enclosed embed code and used that as the URL for the web object, and that worked. With all these Vimeo settings, I'm begging to think that may just have been an issue with the video I had picked or it may have been an issue with me not having a Vimeo account.
