I recently accepted my first position in E-Learning, and it is a temp position, so I have to shine from the start.
The organization I am working for will be using Articulate, but I am used to Captivate. Hence, I wanted to download the free software to my computer; however, I have a mac.
What is the easiest way to get Articulate on my Mac. I have read something about Parallel, but that seems confusing.
I installed a Windows partition on my MAC, using the includd MAC BOOTCAMP feature. Talked to an apple person, followed the steps, no issue, easy steps. Only cost was the licensed copy of windows. MAC working fine and I can switch as needed from Apple to PC.
We just tried to load Storyline on a Macbook Air and it wouldn't work at all! No program, no matter what size, would open for editing. We would get an error message telling us that we needed to close down other applications...it was basically saying that it didn't have enough memory.
Long story short, the Mac has a Retina display and only 512M of video memory.
Disable the Retina display and re-set the video memory to 1024M. Storyline will work fine after that.
Apparently the Retina resolution took up too much video card memory for the software to work with inside any courses. Once we resolved that, the issue went away.
I've been running Storyline on a 13" Macbook Air 2011 version since release without problems. However, I'm using VMWare Fusion and WindowsXP to reduce the footprint. Also have it running on a 15" MPB Retina through Windows 8 on Fusion. Didn't have the issue you indicate above. However, the default resolution didn't work for me. I ended up turning off Use Full Resolution for Retina Display and setting the display resolution to 1440 x 900.
I haven't seen video memory setting in Fusion. Might be a Parallels setting.
Bootcamp, of course, how could I forget about Bootcamp! The best thing about Bootcamp is that you get full performance out of your hardware, but the advantage of running in a VM is ease of sharing files between the Mac and the PC.
My installation of Storyline on a Windows 7 VM (Parallels) has been behaving somewhat erratically, and I think I have just discovered the cause thanks to this article: http://en-uk.articulate.com/support/storyline/create-edit-and-publish-articulate-storyline-courses-on-your-local-hard-drive I was working on files, and publishing to the desktop of the computer, which Parallels was effectively mapping as a network drive so that the Desktop on Windows was the same as the Desktop on the Mac. As soon as I started publishing to a location on the actual C drive all of my problems were resolved.
I have Mac OSX 10.9.4 and tried to install Windows 7 using Bootcamp and it just would not work. Has anyone had better luck using Parallel or VMFusion? What seems to work best running Storyline when using a Mac? Thanks for any help with this!
Parallels really is the way to go - it currently beats WM Ware Fusion. Parallels with a Windows Installation lets you have storyline as a regular application you can open from your bottom menu. Really works!
you can enable sharing and create a folder directly on the C: drive. When you enable sharing all Mac drives and therefore your documents and desktop become network drives (at least windows thinks they are).
I generally have no issues publishing but when I do I publish to the folder I created on the C: drive
Hi Ashley - I have installed parallels10 on my mac, and I just purchased a copy of Windows 8.1 Full online, but the download file is .exe. which does not open. I of course have my product key. Do you know how I get the iso or hard copy of 8.1? Thak you.

Hi,
You will need to do this - that is...use a PC-virtualizer such as Parallels on your Mac.
There is no Mac only version of Articulate products.
Hi Sharron - I've recently done this; feel free to message me for some assistance
You'll have to buy Parallels and obtain a copy of Windows OS. It isn't difficult.
No need to buy anything, the open source VirtualBox will do the job just as well: https://www.virtualbox.org/
The only thing you will need is a licensed copy of Windows.

Like Phil I use Parallels on an rather old (2009?) MacBook Pro and it works just fine. Could be quicker but that's due to my now 5 year old Mac.
