I have built a presenter course that includes ungraded quizmaker quizzes. (I built these using another hero's question and staff answers--thanks!) However, students need to be able to use documents in the Attachments tab to answer the quiz questions and what I'm getting when trying to open the Attachments tab when in a quiz  is "Notification. You must complet the quiz in order to continue." I can't find how to turn this off. Help?

Posted 176 days ago

Hey Jeanne - go to your quiz placeholder slide in your PowerPoint file, and click in the Properties area at the bottom. A window will pop up and you can change the setting for "Allow user to leave quiz" to "At any time." I think this will give you the behavior that you want. Hope that helps! :)

Posted 176 days ago

Also, is there a way, when using the submit one at a time option, to allow the student to complete a question, and if they get a wrong answer, to redo the question before moving on. Right now if I try to do that, I get the same popup, "You must complete the quiz in order to continue."

Posted 176 days ago

You can change the Attempts selector on any question to a specific number (or "unlimited") - this would allow the learner to retry an incorrectly-answered question right after submitting their answer (before moving on to the next question). There really isn't a way to allow the learner to complete the whole quiz, get their results, and then retry only the questions they missed. That would make a good feature request though! www.articulate.com/.../feature

Thanks so much for the answer to my first question. Found the answer to my second question--just need to allow multiple attempts.  :)

Hi Jeanette,

I'm using Quiz Maker for a course interaction that I want learner to complete. However, I would like to change the default Notification message from  "You must complete the quiz in order to continue." to something else. How can I do this?

Thank you,

Posted 101 days ago

Hey Daniel, that message is actually coming from the text labels in Articulate Presenter, which you can modify by customizing your course's player template. This tutorial shows how: community.articulate.com/.../changing-your-player-s-text-labels.aspx (the text labels you'll want to change are #32 and #33 in the list).

I created a Drag and Drop quiz using the template in Quiz Maker. Are there any more formats available to select from? I have two categories that I would like the learners to then drag and drop various items that go into the different categories. The piece connection isn't really what I'm looking for.

Posted 99 days ago

Hi there Carla, there isn't currently a built-in question type that allows you to categorize multiple items into two categories. However, here's a forum post that contains a couple ideas that might work for you: community.articulate.com/.../10885.aspx In the meantime, we welcome feature requests! You can suggest features/enhancements here: www.articulate.com/.../feature

Posted 98 days ago

Hi Jeanette,

Both of these ideas are great! I don't know if I have enough experience with the software to pull these off, but I'm going to try. The only item that is missing with each is the opportunity to grade the responses, but I definitely like the feedback slide option.

I appreciate your help!!

Posted 98 days ago

You can do it, Carla! :) And if you do run into any challenges, just post in the forums & we're happy to give you a hand! Regarding scoring - the first method mentioned in that post (with the multiple-response question arranged into 2 columns) is totally scoreable, so that might be the best route to take. Let us know if there's anything we can do to help.

Posted 98 days ago

Ok, I'm on my way...I'm using the 2 column idea. Is there a way to add an image and text? So in your example,  instead of just the term asset I'd like to show the term and a picture of it. (Asset and a picture of money)  I noticed in the tutorials it shows adding an image instead of text. I thought I might be able to use text box for the term and the image and group it?

Posted 98 days ago

You can totally add an image. If you go to Slide View of the question editor, you can use the Insert tab to insert a picture just like you would do in PowerPoint. community.articulate.com/.../adding-images-and-drawing-objects-in-your-quiz.aspx And you wouldn't really even need to group it - just size it up and place it where you want it to appear on your slide, and you should be good to go. (Oh and also, make sure in the Form View of your question editor you set the Shuffle to "none" so that your answer choices stay put.)

Posted 98 days ago

Hey Jeanette,

I am so excited! I've finished it...but is there a way to have the feedback display after each click selection since it's considered one question? On the toolbar for feedback I don't have the option of "response" like I've seen in a tutorial only "question" and "none". As it is now, when clicking submit if you miss any you get the incorrect feedback statement. I guess when they click on view results is when they would see exactly which ones they got incorrect?

Posted 98 days ago

With that question type (multiple response) there isn't a way to display different feedback for each response... so yeah, one approach would be to incorporate a Review button on the result slide so they could see what they got right or wrong. Another idea, if you'd rather show feedback right after the question, is to do this: if hte learner gets the question wrong, you could branch them to a blank slide on which you've inserted more robust feedback. Like, on your blank slide you could create it to look similar to the question slide, but draw green checkmarks on the right answers, and red X's on the wrong ones, or something like that. Here's a tutorial that shows how to use blank slides & branching in this way: community.articulate.com/.../creating-customized-feedback-with-blank-slides-and-branching.aspx

Posted 98 days ago

OK, for some reason at the end of the there's a show results button by default? I created a blank slide as you mentioned replicating the question slide then only showing the correct answers for each selection. I branched that on the bottom to Incorrect. Originally I left the feedback on correct as default. then decided to create a blank slide to show if all responses were correct and branched it on the bottom to Correct. Now, regardless of how I answer, I get the blank slide for the incorrect response. I double checked the MORE button on Correct at the bottom, it appears to branch to the correct slide as does the MORE button on Incorrect?? With this type of question can I only have one blank slide?

Posted 98 days ago

Hey Carla - I think you just need to do one more step: check the branching on your blank (feedback) slides. On the first slide (for the correct feedback), set the branching so that the learner jumps OVER the incorrect-feedback slide. Also, regarding your question about the result slide, you can turn that off or customize it if you like. Here's a tutorial that shows how: community.articulate.com/.../customizing-the-result-slides.aspx

Posted 97 days ago

Hi Jeanette,

I am setting up an interaction using Quiz Maker. Most or all of the branching scenario examples shown in tutorials and tips use multiple choice question option. Because I am using Multiple Response questions, I am limited to just two possible responses; correct or incorrect. I can extend this a bit further by branching an incorrect response slide back to the correct response slide before moving the learner to the next question.

What I want to do is give a separate response based on the answer that the learner submits. I thought that I might be able to get around the limitation of the Multiple Response questions by using hyper-links. However, I have not been able to find a way to hyper-link to a blank slide within the quiz. Is this possible or is the hyper-link only for linking to web resources?

You may have other ideas for me to try or other examples to view. Thank you for your time.

Posted 97 days ago

Hello Daniel - with the multiple-response question type, there isn't a way to provide answer-specific feedback, which is why you're only seeing an opportunity to show "correct" or "incorrect" feedback. The reason we don't offer this is because the logic quickly becomes very complex... i.e., if you have 4 answer choices, you'd need to give feedback on up to 14 different combinations (A, A+B, A+B+C, A+B+C+D, A+D, etc.). There really isn't a workaround, but you could do what Carla mentions above:  create a blank slide to serve as feedback for the incorrect answer, and on that blank slide, show which choices are wrong and which choices are right. If you needed a way to provide more detail on each choice, you could perhaps use the "hint" method that Dave Moxon shows in this article: daveperso.mediaenglishonline.com/.../adding-question-hints-in-quizmaker-09 (But instead of using the magnifying glass icon as a hint, you could use it to display a graphic of supplemental info on each item that appears on your feedback slide)

Posted 97 days ago

Jeanette, Yes I do see the problem with creating responses to a multiple response question. Attempting to do so would not be in keeping with Rapid E-learning.

How about the question regarding hyper-link to a blank slide within the quiz, is this possible?

Posted 97 days ago

Hi Daniel! Unfortunately, there isn't a way to hyperlink amongst slides in Quizmaker. Depending on your question content, if you need to provide very granular feedback, you might be better off splitting the content across several multiple-choice slides, which would allow you to set up separate feedback for each answer. That said, we always welcome feature requests :) so if you're inclined, we invite you to share your suggestions here: www.articulate.com/.../feature

Posted 97 days ago

As always, thank you for your prompt response to our questions.

Posted 94 days ago

Jeanette, not sure if I missed the answer to this problem somewhere...I am making my first quiz and have enabled email. After publishing the quiz inside a presentation, and sending myself a test email of my responses to the quiz, all the email says is "Quiz Results= Anil," with "Anil" being the name of the quiz made in quizmaker. How do the responses come to me in the email?

Is here an article I can read or a tutorial video somewhere?

Posted 94 days ago

Hi there Dale - it sounds like perhaps you need to enable the "Review Quiz" option on your result slide: www.articulate.com/.../kb

Posted 91 days ago

Hi Jeannette, It's a new day so I have to create a new quiz! This time I used multiple response. I set it up like I did the 2 column one - the question then 2 blank sides for feedback. I used all 10 potential responses and selected which 4 of that 10 were correct. In slide view I made the responses into two columns so I could maximize font size on the responses.

First Problem: when I go to preview it, the click boxes that I moved to the second column aren't responding.

Second Problem: In the lower right corner of the player (I guess) in preview there are buttons for previous and next. I only want the learner to check the boxes then submit all then based on how they responded they would see one of the two blank slides.

I appreciate your help!

Posted 91 days ago

Hey Carla - Sounds like in your second column, the textboxes from the 1st column might be covering up the checkboxes in the second column. You should be able to go to slide view, and then resize the bounding box on the 1st-column items so they don't overlap with the 2nd-column checkboxes. Regarding your other question - in Quizmaker, click Player Templates>Edit>Navigation and make sure the top option (submit one option at a time) is selected. This is the method of answer submission  you'll need to use if you're branching the learner to different blanks slides based on how they answer the question.

Posted 91 days ago

Thanks Jeanette! Those suggestions worked. I have inserted my quiz into my presentation in Presenter everything works great, but here's the issue. The quiz is the last item in the course. I need to communicate to the learner that they need to exit the course and proceed to the test prior to taking the next course.

Initially, I created another blank slide and had everything branching to it that basically gave them those instructions. However, when previewed it, that seemed to create a circular problem. At the bottom of the player I had forward and backward arrows that when clicked kept going through the blank slides. So I changed the branching to "finish quiz" which fixed the circular problem but now, there's no conclusion to the course or instructions on how to proceed.  Any ideas on providing a conclusion since the quiz is the last page of the course?

I appreciate your time!

Posted 91 days ago

Could you add one more slide in Presenter, after the quiz? Basically a simple message like "thanks for taking the course; you can close your browser window now"? You could hide this slide from appearing in the Presenter sidebar menu if you want, so that way learners can't jump right to it without completing the quiz.

Posted 91 days ago

YES! Thanks...that's the simplest way. I'm making this harder than it has to be.

Posted 91 days ago

I add two slides at the end of my course - one with instructions if they have failed the quiz and one with instructions if they pass. I set the quiz properties so that the Finish button goes to the appropriate slide depending on pass/fail. I hide them from the sidebar menu and use branching so that they don't see the other slide if they hit next or back.

Great technique, Nancy!

Hoping someone can help me out. We want to add in some flash templates/charts/tables and graphs as part of an assessment for the student to put multiple responses in the boxes etc, how do we need to set this up so we can record/store their results? thanks :)

Posted 78 days ago

I just created a multiple response quiz. I am using blank slides for feedback. On the question slide, a slide bar appears on the right side of the page. The page content is small enough to not need a slide bar. When I preview the quiz, after answering the question, I click submit and a dialogue box displays indicating I need to scroll to the bottom of the page before submitting. How do I resize the page so that the slide bar goes away?

Posted 78 days ago

Hi Carla! Sounds like there is something on your slide that is extending beyond the bottom border of the slide. Try this: open your quiz in Quizmaker, go to that question and open it, and then switch to Slide View. Do a Ctrl+A to select all objects so that you can see each object's border. Once you identify the object that is the culprit, you should be able to select just that object and then move or resize it so that it fits on the slide.

Posted 77 days ago

Carla - if you have a background image filling the screen an easy way to fit it in without scrolling is to make it the same size as the quizmaker screen (686 x 424) then use ctl + arrow keys to nudge it into the right place (you'll know it's right when the scroll bar disappears!)

Posted 77 days ago

Another Quizmaker question: When I used the email results in the past, it sent a somewhat cryptic email which included the results by question. Although it took some extraction to format the results and look at results by question, the content existed in the email.

We moved to WIN7 and Outlook 2010 and now the system generated email has no information at all about their results in the quiz.

Is there a setting that instructs the system to send the quiz result details via the Outlook message? Is there another way to track results that will provide that level of information?

Posted 77 days ago

Amanda & Jeanette - thanks for responding so quickly. The problem did have to do with a background image as Amanda suggested. Thought I'd let you know how I wound up correcting the issue in case others experience it. In slide view mode, I went to the design tab>background design styles>format background>fill>picture and then inserted the file. That way it is sized perfectly!

Posted 77 days ago

Amanda, thanks for sharing that helpful tip! And Carla, so glad to hear you're all set! :)

Doug: Regarding your Email Results output, unfortunately you might be running into some client-slide limitations or security restrictions that are outside of Quizmaker's control. More about that in this knowledgebase article: www.articulate.com/.../kb  You're welcome to submit a support case so that a support engineer can take a look at what's going on and help you troubleshoot:   www.articulate.com/.../index.php

Posted 77 days ago

If I am interpreting your response accurately - the standard EMAIL RESULTS should include the quiz question detail so the reason I am not getting it is due to some internal filters or set up?

Posted 77 days ago

Well, it's not really about filters... the problem is usually due to the way modern browsers & security restrictions get in the way of Quizmaker's ability to invoke the learner's mail program (i.e., Outlook, or whatever tool the learner is using to manage and send their email).

Posted 77 days ago

I am hoping others have figured out how to manage this:

- Are there specific security parameters that solve this issue?

- Is there anything to recommend trying that might resolve the issue?

Is the only option to move to an LMS?

Posted 77 days ago

Our courses are taken by students all over the world, with different security requirements and firewall issues. I handle the issue of quiz results by having students:

- Click on the Print Results button at the bottom of the screen.

- Type their name in the Enter Name box that pops up on the screen and click on OK.

- When results print in a separate window, click on the Page icon on the right of their browser toolbar.

- Use the Save As command to save the file as a text file.

  •File name: Results[Your last name] (e.g., ResultsMiller).

•Save as Type: Text File (*.txt).

•Save the file to a location they can find again.

-Send by email the file they just saved to their instructor.

Not the most elegant solution, but it gets us around the firewall and other security restrictions.

Posted 77 days ago

Yeah unfortunately with the way browsers have evolved, it's made client-side email solutions (such as the one in Quizmaker) difficult to implement reliably, which is why we always recommend going with an LMS or Articulate Online. There are quite a few free or low-cost LMS options out there too; that might be the best way to go in your situation. Brian mentions several in this forum post: community.articulate.com/.../6652.aspx

Posted 62 days ago

I've been searching through this site as well as E-learning heroes to see if anyone has done something like this. I think what I want my end result to be is like a word scramble meaning I have a process that  consists of 3 words. I'd like to place multiple words on the page then have them slect the correct three and put them in order. So I was thinking of a sequence drag and drop. Any ideas?

Posted 58 days ago

Hey Carla, here's an example that might be kind of similar to what you have in mind. It's a series of hotspot questions which requires the learner to select multiple items, in the correct order, from among some distractors: articulate-community.s3.amazonaws.com/.../quiz.html Would something like that fit what you have in mind?

Posted 58 days ago

Thanks Jeanette, I don't think I can make that work for what I'm trying to do. Love this idea though so I'm going to keep it for future refernce. The way the question is posed currently is fill in the blank: What does CNC stand for? BORING! so I thought I could

place several words that start with C and N on the page and have the learner pick the correct three in the correct order. I tried using matching but it won't allow for some items to not have matches (Unless there's a way around that?)Then I tried the sequence drag and drop but didn't know what to do with the C & N words the learner doesn't select.

Posted 58 days ago

Carla, you can use the same method you used earlier in this email thread: a multiple response question but this time with three columns (one for the C options, N options, and C options). And just a question to you, but is it more important for them to be able to define the acronym or to identify when CNC applies or should be used? (For example, which of the scenarios below describe a situation where you would use the CNC database.)

Posted 58 days ago

Thanks Diane - good thought. That would definitely be more interactive than what they have now. This is just one of many questions the SMEs identified as important for the learners to grasp.

Posted 37 days ago

Hi Jeanette,

I have completed a Word bank quiz. Rather than using the pass/fail pages, I have created blank slides for feedback. I must have a setting wrong, the branching is set up on each of the blank slides to be "Finish Quiz" but when I preview the quiz and try to exit after getting one of the blank slides I receive an error message that says "you must complete the quiz in order to continue" when I ready completed the quiz...I tried clicking on the back arrow and received the same error.

Any ideas?

Posted 37 days ago

Hi Carla, in that situation, for Quizmaker to know that the learner has actually completed the quiz, they need to click the Next button in the lower-right corner of your blank feedback slide. It sounds like they're clicking the forward button on the Presenter player controls instead. There are a couple things you could do: (1) on your quiz placeholder slide, change the view mode to Slide Only, so that none of the Presenter player controls appear - this way it'll be more obvious to the learner that they need to use the Next button on the blank feedback slide to advance. (2) Or, change the quiz properties at the bottom of the quiz placeholder slide so that users may leave the quiz "at any time" rather than "after completing the quiz." This way the pop-up will not appear (but of course this also means that the learner would be able to leave the quiz before they were finished, which you might not want).

Posted 37 days ago

Thanks for responding so quickly! As usual, it worked. WOOHOO!

Posted 35 days ago

Jeanette,

I have a course with 6 different quizzes.  THe learner chooses the learning path at the beginning of the course and based on that choice he/she is directed to one of the 6 quizzes.  Following the completion of the quiz, the learner is navigated to a final quiz that consists of a "choose one" survey question that basically requires them to validate that they have viewed all the material.

The problem is that each of the 6 quizzes is set to go to this last quiz survey question upon completion of the quiz.  However, what is happening is that the Finish button does nothing.  The learner is stuck at the end of the quiz and cannot navigate to the next page which is the "choose one" survey question.  Is my design set up incorrectly?  I can't seem to find any referenc to this problem anywhere on the Heroes site.  Thanks for you guidance.

Posted 35 days ago

Hi Curtis! I'd recommend checking the Properties area at the bottom of your 6 quizzes. There are 2 properties there, called "On Passing" and "On Failing" ... these determine where the learner is taken after they pass or fail the quiz and click the Finish button. Both of those should send the learner to your final (Pick One) quiz at the end of your course.

Posted 34 days ago

THey are all set to go to that final Quiz - both if they pass or fail.  But, when I click on Finish, it does not respond.  It only allows me to review the quiz.  Is there some issue with navigatind directly from one quiz to another?  Or is there an issue when both Pass and Fail are set to navigate to the same slide?  I can't seem to figure out why it is not allowing the learner to finish and proceed to the final quiz.

Posted 34 days ago

Hey Curtis - it sounds like you've set it up right, but I'd recommend submitting a support case so we can take a closer look at what might be the trouble. You can submit a case here: www.articulate.com/.../method.php and then when you receive your case number, upload your project files here: http://upload.articulate.com/ so that a support engineer can take a look.

Posted 34 days ago

Curtis, Jeanette - Could you provide an update here on the outcome to your question / issue when resolved. I would like to know how it was addressed. Thanks

Posted 34 days ago

Hello,

I Just completed setting up a 5 question scored quiz. I would like to print out the Passing Results. Under Pass Results I selected Display Result Slide, Show User's Score, Allow User to Review Quiz, Show Correct/Incorrect Response, Allow User to Print Results and finally Prompt for User Name.

When you click on the print results button and it prompts you for your name, a prompt comes up to fill in your name just as I wanted. But when you click the button you only get a white screen with Date/Time at the top. Did I miss something?

Posted 34 days ago

Hey Christy - I'd take a look at this article and see the steps there fix the issue: www.articulate.com/.../kb If you continue to have issues though feel free to submit a support case and we can take a look: www.articulate.com/.../method.php

Posted 34 days ago

Hi Jeanette~Thanks for your response. I read the article and I have Exploxer 9 not 8 so it doesn't apply to me, so I will be submitting a a support case. ~Thanks

Posted 34 days ago

Hi Jeanette:

I want you to know how valuable this blog is when I am looking for answers.  Haven't found anything for a problem I now have.   I need to create a non scoring quiz using the QM Survey, but I need to set it up so my user can  "enlarge" the diagram image I am inserting in QM Survey.   It works well with the Engage Interactions but with Engage I am unable to set it up as a quiz with response to questions.  Is there a way to insert Engage into QM Survey?

Posted 34 days ago

Hi Geri - what if you inserted a large image (up to 720x540) and then added a Zoom button on it so that users could get a bigger view? Like in this example: articulate-community.s3.amazonaws.com/.../quiz.html You can insert the image in Slide View and then (with the image still selected) click the Format tab and choose Zoom Picture. That inserts the magnifying glass icon on the image so learners can zoom. If that doesn't fit your needs, there is actually a way to add Engage to Quizmaker, but it's not officially supported, and it's a little labor-intensive. If you'd like to look into that, you can find the info here: daveperso.mediaenglishonline.com/.../how-to-embed-engage-09-within-quizmaker-09

Posted 33 days ago

The Zoom picture feature in the Format Tab worked great!  Thank you.

I thought I could allow the user to retry a question in a survey if they get it wrong but can't find the right permission anywhere to set it up.  Can you let me know if it is possible?

Posted 33 days ago

I published it and was able to see I set it correctly to review.

Posted 33 days ago

So you're all set then Geri? If not, feel free to post here or in the Quizmaker forum & we can help you out :)

Posted 30 days ago

Doug and Jeannette,

I was able to resolve the problem with the 6 Quiz course-with Articulate's help of course.  It turns out that there was some corruption on the file.  By following the recommended solution found here on "How to Fix a Corrupt PowerPoint File" www.articulate.com/.../kb. (Note: please make sure that you uncheck the "Keep source formatting" option).    I was able to repair the course.  I did have to go back and insert the 6 quizzes again into the newly created course.  Thanks to Articulate for quickly resolving this for me.

Posted 30 days ago

Curtis - Thanks for the explanation.

I have had several occasions where I get hung up publishing on a specific slide and had to go back and save the slide as an image because for some reason it had gotten corrupted.

I have also learned the hard way to make sure to save all the quizzes as separate files from the integrated document for just such issues as you experienced.

Hi Jeanette,

After searching through the site, I have found out we can't have multple hot spots on one image...I've been asked to create a quiz inwhich the learner is asked to identify the various parts of a forklift. I was originally thinking displaying the forklift graphic then creating hot spots for each part...is there a way to create a labeled graphic quiz? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Posted 29 days ago

Hey Carla, a Labeled Graphic is a good way to go if you just want learners to explore your image, but if you need to assess their ability to identify the right parts, you would need to use Quizmaker for that. One way to do it would be to go with a multiple-response question instead: community.articulate.com/.../creating-a-multiple-hotspot-question-in-quizmaker.aspx ...or maybe try doing something creative with a matching dropdown question like this: articulate-community.s3.amazonaws.com/.../quiz.html

Posted 28 days ago

Jeanette, you have done it again! I love the first example but it won't for this application because it's almost like I have not only multiple responses but also multiple questions. The second example will work perfectly! Thanks so much - you always make me look like I know what I'm doing! Have a great day!!

Posted 28 days ago

LOL, Carla, you DO know what you're doing! And collaborating with a community like this one is a great way to think up fun new ideas. :) Here's the source file for that quiz example, in case that helps you get a head-start on the project you're building: articulate-community.s3.amazonaws.com/.../Extruder.zip It's pretty straightforward... if you switch to Slide View, you'll see that I just covered up the built-in numbers on the dropdown choices with homemade circular ones. Good luck on your project!
