Catch Up with Articulate at DevLearn (And Get an Exclusive Look at Our New Responsive Player)

DevLearn 2015 is coming up! We get super fired up about DevLearn because it’s such a great opportunity to connect with the e-learning community in person. Here’s a quick heads-up on everything we have planned!

We’ll be hosting Booth #307, and we’ll have a super-fun surprise planned for you there (more on that SOON!). You’ll definitely want to stop by.

And this year at DevLearn you’ll get an exclusive, sneak peek at our new responsive player in action. It’s one of the key ways we're solving the challenge of multi-device e-learning, and we can’t wait to show you. To take a look, stop by our booth or catch one of Trina’s stage sessions.

Trina, David, and Tom will be leading several informative and helpful sessions. Here’s where you can catch up with them:

Hi Simon, I hope you dont mind if I chip in here too. Here are some of the features I'd like to see in Storyline to allow me to output to a responsive mobile player: To be able to map the menu, search, notes and resources to my own buttons so I can create an 'app' style look and feel. The first two items (menu and search) being the most important as I feel allowing intuitive and free navigation very important. To be able to control which visual components are displayed or are hidden for different screen sizes and orientations. To be able to lock items to top/bottom/side of screen - especially useful for navigation controls. To allow alternative versions of graphics for different screen sizes and orientations. This could either allow for smaller files sizes for faster load or for an a... Expand

Thanks for the feedback Adrian, that's a really great list. We definitely want to empower people to make courses with (say) custom navigation and some of the other features you listed. If you've seen the preview we demoed at DevLearn, one initial focus has been getting the "chrome" out of the way and making your content the star. The controls and menus we do have are clean, modern and neutral from a design point of view, so should pair well with a wide variety of content. They can mostly be disabled if you'd rather roll your own, though our aim is to make them sufficiently powerful that even experienced course authors will want to leverage them in their courses. As with most software, we'll start simple and add in greater flexibility and power over time as people start building real ... Expand

Hi Simon, I'm based in the UK so can't get to DevLearn this year. Is there any way to see a demo of the new player here? It is frustrating to hear people talk about it but not to be able to see it ! Also, just to echo what Ant has said about getting away from the standard elearning look. I too have spent a lot of time customising my training output. In fact I use a flash based 'widget' from Dennis Hall that allows me to map the Storyline menu to the timeline and hence I can add it to a layer and trigger it from a button or hotspot however I want. I love the power of the menu, especially the full text search facility and if the information is already compiled during the publishing process then I don't see why Articulate couldn't make this freedom of design available in Storyline by defaul... Hi Adrian, if you haven't already seen our white paper on the subject "Delivering E-Learning in a Mobile World" (http://www.articulate.com/support/storyline-2/delivering-e-learning-in-a-mobile-world) I would recommend checking that out as a starting point. It includes a couple of screenshots of the new player to give you some context and explains our overall approach. We're all for building in greater flexibility and customisation to the responsive player over time. Features such as allowing the built in player modules (e.g. Menu, Glossary) or playback control to be triggered directly from the stage would certainly be useful, and we'll get there over time. Our first priority though has to be making sure existing content plays back in a usable and performant way across a range of device... Expand
