Customizing the E-Learning Course Player #5

Customizing the Course Player #5: Challenge | Recap

How Can E-Learning Designers Customize the Look and Feel of the Course Player?

One great thing about Articulate Storyline 2 and Articulate Studio ‘13 is that there are so many ways you can customize the look and feel of your course player.

Using the Player Properties window, you can control almost every aspect of your course player, such as the colors, navigation settings, location of the player menus and tabs, and much more.

While the default settings work well for many projects, you can easily customize the course player to visually align with your course content or company branding. And learning to customize the course player is what this week’s screencasting challenge is all about!

Screencast Challenge of the Week

This week, your challenge is to share one or more screencasts to help Storyline and Studio users learn how to customize their course players.

NOTE: Don’t worry if someone already recorded a similar tutorial. The weekly screencast challenges are for you to show what you know using your own personal voice and style.

Topics or Areas to Demonstrate

The following topics are from the Storyline 2 and Presenter ‘13 user guides.

  • Choosing Player Features
  • Customizing the Menu
  • Attaching Resources
  • Adding a Glossary
  • Changing the Player Colors and Font
  • Changing the Text Labels
  • Changing the Browser Settings and Player Size
  • Changing the Resume Behavior
  • Enabling Right-to-Left Language Support
  • Saving Your Player or Switching to a Different One

You can use the product tutorials to guide your screencasts or you can share your own tips for working with the course player.

Record Your Screencast

Record your screencast using any tool you like. Storyline’s built-in screen recorder is one option. Replay works well for including webcam video with your screen recording. Another popular option is Camtasia.

Share Your Screencast

Please use YouTube, Vimeo, or Wistia to host your screencast. In the comments section, paste a link to your video or blog post and I’ll include your work in next week’s recap.

You’re also free to bundle your videos into a Storyline project (here’s an example). You’ll just need a place to host your published project. If you need help, I can host your files on our servers.

Ready? Set? Record!

About the Screencast Challenges

The weekly screencasting challenges are ongoing opportunities to teach, learn, and demonstrate your e-learning expertise. You can jump into any or all of the previous challenges anytime you want. I’ll update the recap posts to include your demos.
