We have always used personalisation in our courses, harking back to when we did not have an LMS and reported completion and scores to a Google spreadsheet.
I have another use for this variable too. You know the courses that are fairly long and the client makes you lock down the navigation and you just need to get to a section quickly? Instead of your name, put in the name Sl@rtiBartfast, just like this. Now when you press submit you will be taken to an admin help page. Here you can change the completion variables or move to different sections of the course. Press the Home button to exit this page.
Oh and try not putting in a name..

I like the idea of a short cut if needed. How do you let people know what it is and is that limited to certain people?
I also have a way to handle no name but yours is funnier. Nice.
