I have a Captivate 5 .swf file that I want to include in an Engage activity. When I publish it the Captivate file plays crazy with a box flashing and the .swf flashes uncontrollably. I know that when you publish Captivate 5 to Presenter you need to do it as as a web object. But how can you get a Captivate 5 .swf file published to Engage?
Thanks for the suggestion and the response. I don't have Camtasia, but I may need to look into it. Being new to the group, I am very impressed with the response I have received. I really appreciate the feedback!
You can use an as3 container to load as2 content, so it should be relatively easy for them allow us to use our as2 content. I would hate to use lose the stuff we have built
Help! I tried using a web object to import an AS3 Captivate in to Presenter. It didn't work! Any other suggestions from the team. I do have camtasia but don't want to get another project into to mix.

Hi Alice,
The web object should work as expected. If you're having issues, you'll want to upload your content online & then test it.
You said, "I know that when you publish Captivate 5 to Presenter you need to do it as as a web object."
Can you PLEASE tell me how to do that? Everyone says you can't put CS5 into Presenter 7 because they work with different versions of ActionScript - but I really really need to find a way to make it work.

Hmm, worked for me on a numerous occasions, shouldn't be Articulate's fault. Maybe you should start a new thread and then heroes will come to the rescue
I use Captivate 5 and found publishing as a MP4 under Media works well within Articulate. The file size may be larger but the load time is the same as a smaller swf. Has anyone else tried this?
I gather from various links that you cannot embed Captivate 5 output into an Articulate Engage '09 interaction because of the Action Script incompatibility. True? Or have I missed something?
This is true if you publish to a swf. However, Captivate 5.5 offers the option to publish to a MP4, which works in Articulate. The file maybe larger but loads just as fast. You can also use a preloader with MP4s as well.
I installed a trial version of Captivate 5.5, was able to publish my Captivate file in MP4 format, and was able to embed the MP4 into an Engage interaction. I used a Captivate file that had originally been recorded at a size of 1014x713.
Previously, when I was embedding Captivate skin swf files in Engage, I could specify that I wanted the movie to open in a new window so it could be displayed in full size. This does not appear to be possible when embedding MP4s in Engage, so when I publish the Articulate file and play the resulting movie, the Captivate demo shows up in a small box within the interaction, and you can hardly make out its contents. Furthermore, the MP4 plays through without pausing. I had included lots of pauses in the movie for learners to read stuff and especially click in the right places. In fact my original reason for upgrading from CP 3 was because there was a bug in the click box behavior.
Am I trying to do too much, or is there a way to embed Captivate 5.5 output in an Engage interaction such that it appears in a new window (nice and large) and pauses where I've configured pauses (click boxes and such)?
Do you have any suggestions for putting a Captivate 3 or 4 into a Quizmaker slide? The thread seems to indicate Captivate 5 is an impossibility. I just wondered if one of the earlier versions would work. We have both. And I want to have students "race" against a virtual student.
Hi Rhona, I'm having exactly the same issue as you described here with Captivate 5 and Engage 09. Did you ever find the answer? Upgrading to Captivate 5.5 is not an option for me.
No unfortunately because of the action script issue, getting Captivate 5 to work is not going to happen. There is a work around if you are trying to use it in Presenter. The link for this is below. Hope this helps.

Can I just make the request now though, if and when Articulate does start supporting AS3 - please don't stop supporting AS2!

Hello and welcome to Heroes! Take a look at this article which shows you in detail how to do that:

Thank you!!

Thanks for clarifying that you need Captivate 5.5--I was wondering about that! Will try that and let you know if it works.

Here is a way to make Flash AS2 files from Captivate 5:
Download and install freeware application Free Studio Manager
then ...
From Captivate 5, publish to > media > f4v format
Use Free Studio Manager to convert the .f4v file to .swf
The output file will be AS2 Flash, and it can be imported to Presenter, Engage or Quizmaker as you wish

Hi Fred ...
just tried to put a Captivate (AS2) swf into a QuizMaker slide, and it worked perfectly fine.
Captivate 3 produces swf files in AS2 format
Captivate 4 produces AS2 or AS3 swf files according to your choice
... and Captivate 5 produces AS3 only ;o(
good luck !
Thank you! I'll go change that pesky AS3 to an AS2...and I'll quit complaining that I don't have Cap5! You are SO helpful. Thank you.

Ali,
This was also provided as a solution. I have not tried it, but may be worth a try if you have time.

This makes me sad. I thought a race against a virtual student would be keen. Impossible. But keen.
Thanks very much Rhona, I'll try the Free Studio Manager. What a pity Articulate Encoder doesn't do it! I've tried Flash Pro also, but no go.
I found this article, I tried it, and it worked!
