Captivate 5 in an Engage Activity

Mar 03, 2011

I have a Captivate 5 .swf file that I want to include in an Engage activity. When I publish it the Captivate file plays crazy with a box flashing and the .swf flashes uncontrollably. I know that when you publish Captivate 5 to Presenter you need to do it as as a web object. But how can you get a Captivate 5 .swf file published to Engage?

Thanks!

Help!  I tried using a web object to import an AS3 Captivate in to Presenter. It didn't work! Any other suggestions from the team. I do have camtasia but don't want to get another project into to mix.

Hi Alice,

The web object should work as expected.  If you're having issues, you'll want to upload your content online & then test it.

Hmm, worked for me on a numerous occasions, shouldn't be Articulate's fault. Maybe you should start a new thread and then heroes will come to the rescue

I installed a trial version of Captivate 5.5, was able to publish my Captivate file in MP4 format, and was able to embed the MP4 into an Engage interaction. I used a Captivate file that had originally been recorded at a size of 1014x713.

Previously, when I was embedding Captivate skin swf files in Engage, I could specify that I wanted the movie to open in a new window so it could be displayed in full size. This does not appear to be possible when embedding MP4s in Engage, so when I publish the Articulate file and play the resulting movie, the Captivate demo shows up in a small box within the interaction, and you can hardly make out its contents. Furthermore, the MP4 plays through without pausing. I had included lots of pauses in the movie for learners to read stuff and especially click in the right places. In fact my original reason for upgrading from CP 3 was because there was a bug in the click box behavior.

Am I trying to do too much, or is there a way to embed Captivate 5.5 output in an Engage interaction such that it appears in a new window (nice and large) and pauses where I've configured pauses (click boxes and such)?

Here is a way to make Flash AS2 files from Captivate 5:

Download and install freeware application Free Studio Manager

then ...

From Captivate 5, publish to > media > f4v format

Use Free Studio Manager to convert the .f4v file to .swf

The output file will be AS2 Flash, and it can be imported to Presenter, Engage or Quizmaker as you wish

Ali,

This was also provided as a solution. I have not tried it, but may be worth a try if you have time.
