Closed Captioning within Engage Interaction

Jul 08, 2018

Please tell me there's a way to add closed captioning to an Engage Interaction. I recorded audio with different pieces of the interaction (actually several interactions), and I'm required to have closed captioning. Since I'm using it as part of Storyline, I assumed Engage would have the same option, but I can't find it. Please help.

Hi Jill!

It sounds like you'll be embedding these Engage interactions in Storyline, is that right?

If so, you'll want to import the Engage slides into Storyline first. Then, you can add audio to Engage slides, and add closed captioning to the audio file using Storyline's Closed Caption Editor.

Let me know if that's what you had in mind!

I don’t think you can do that.

I already have the Engage files inside Storyline and already have audio recorded as part of the interactions. (For example, in the accordion interaction, I have audio that goes with each part of the accordion and begins when you click on each part). In Storyline, the audio doesn’t appear in the timeline because it’s part of the Engage Interaction, so I don’t seem to have the option to add captions there. (I could only record audio and add captions for that slide overall, but not for the audio clips within Engage).

Thanks for clarifying that, Jill!

It sounds like you added the audio to the Engage slides before importing them into Storyline.

You can only add closed captions to audio that was added after you imported the Engage slides into Storyline.

In other words, the audio must be added in Storyline for the closed caption feature to work.

Thanks for the quick responses. I really appreciate it.
But it seems that it doesn’t matter whether I record before or after the import. Either way, the audio recording is still inside the Engage Interaction (meaning I have to “Edit in Engage” to access or edit the audio) and doesn’t show up on the Storyline timeline (which is where it would need to be to create captions using Storyline, right?).

Is there something I’m not doing right?

This is incredibly nice, and I really do appreciate the personalized video!
But nope, this is not what I need. I already understand how to do all that.

What I need to be able to do (and now I’m thinking it’s just not possible) is to add captions to different parts of the interaction. There are different voiceovers needed for different parts of the interaction, so it doesn’t make sense to just have a single audio file over the whole thing like you showed.

Thanks anyway!
