Engage 13 - next button

Nov 01, 2013

I am creating several engage pieces using the new Engage13 for an Articulate presentation.  The next button no longer advances to the next slide, but rather just to the next segment of the engage piece.  I have the engage piece set up so that the user can freely move about the interaction themselves. How do I get the previous and next buttons to move to the previous and next slides instead of controling the engage piece?  It is not necessary for the user to see each segment of the engage piece before moving on.  Thanks, Jan

I agree with this one completely. Having been using Articulate 09, i understand the need for the unified player, and i think is a great feature, but not at the expense of controlling (limiting) the engage interaction portion. To be honest i am very disappointed with Articulate 13, my learning curve is longer (still adjusting to this point) and there are more unconventional settings (quirks) that i am still seeing up to this point. But yes, please fix this or add a setting for this. Thanks

Hi Khristian!

This thread is a bit dated.

With the release of Update 3 for Articulate Studio '13, you can now control how the Prev and Next buttons behave for Articulate Engage interactions embedded in Articulate Presenter courses. The navigation buttons can either jump to the previous/next step in the interaction or the previous/next slide in the overall presentation. See this article for details.

I just know that the functionality on importing Engage '09 worked great into SL.  We were forced to upgrade to SL2 because SL would not import Engage /13 files and we needed additional development capacity in Engage and we could not longer get another /09 license.  I just spent the day developing a bunch of activities in Engage /13 and I have them set to allow the user to advance in any order with the previous/next buttons visible and these settings (as described throughout this thread) no longer allow the user to use theses activities at their own discretion.

Is there any way to set the interaction properties in Engage '13 (for use in SL2) so that users can go through them at their own discretion?  Or if I want that functionality am I going to have to rebuild all the interactions in Engage /09 and put them into Storyline?  I don't see anything in the links you sent that answer this specifically?   This project is due to go live tomorrow so I'm a bit under the gun and not at all happy to discover these issues especially after we were forced to invest in this new software to continue using your products.

You are correct Amy and SL2 utilizes it's own player buttons to navigate the course. There are no longer separate buttons for the interaction and the project like in SL1.

The user can still freely navigate, but when the Next button is clicked it will pick up at the current location the user is in prior to moving to the next slide.

They can navigate through the course, but the "next" button on interaction pages forces them to do every page/slide of the interaction which is not desired.  This feed seems to indicate that this was addressed/corrected for Presenter.  Is there any plan to address the need for interactions to work as they previous did in Engage 09 or are we stuck with this new functionality only?
