Engage - Cannot get past page with buttons

Nov 19, 2012

Hi,

I saw this posted 2 years ago and am hoping this was a bug and is fixed.  I have an Engage interaction with 3 buttons.  I need the learners to view all of the text on the slide when they click each button.  I do not want them to be able to view the slide associated with one button, ignore the other two, and move to the next slide.  When I restrict the learners (using the Player Template option) and view an Engage interaction with three buttons, I click all three buttons but then cannot get past that slide.  I could set the Player Template option to "Free" but then does not force the learners to view all of the information I want them to see.  Is this a bug???

Thanks, Linda

Hi Linda. Welcome to E-Learning Heroes!

I haven't seen this listed as a bug, but it does sound strange. Would you mind submitting a support case with our tech team? They'll be able to take a closer look at it and determine if this is a bug. Please include your Engage Interaction file (.intr) with the case. Also, please share the case number with me so I can follow along with the progress of the case.

Thanks!

Hi Linda,

I was thinking of making your Engage interaction linear, so that your user have to go through each of the steps before they can proceed to the next slide. However, you mentioned I do not want them to be able to view the slide associated with one button ", and I'm not entirely sure what you mean about slide that is associated with one button. Also, what kind of Engage interaction are you working on?

Hi,

Thanks for the response.  What I mean by:  "I do not want them to be able to view the slide associated with one button, ignore the other two, and move to the next slide" is that I want to force them to click all 3 buttons before they move off the page, so they get to see the text/slide associated with each of the 3 buttons.

Hi Linda,

If I'm picturing your scenario right, here's what I would do:

1. Insert Engage interaction in Presenter.

2. Open Player templates -> Set user navigation to "Restricted".

Setting the Presenter user navigation to Restricted will just allow your users to view current and previous slide. So if the user is in the Engage interaction slide, provided that the properties is set to "Allow user to leave interaction - after viewing all steps", the user will not be able to move forward unless the interaction is finished.

Unless there's something I miss, or I do not understand quite right, this should prevent your users from jumping from one slide to another.

You can also send me a sample here and maybe take a look of what's your course design . I don't promise anything, but I may be able to give a useful input.
