As far as I know, there isn't a way to adjust when the thumbnail shows. However, the thumbnails should be a snapshot of the video you have inserted into the different sections.
When you preview in Engage, are the thumbnails blank?
The only thing that comes to mind is to trim down the videos, so that they don't start off blank. Engage uses the first frame of the video to create that thumbnail - it's not possible to replace it with another image.
What format are the videos? If they're a supported format, you could use Replay to trim the beginning of the videos, so they display in a little more appealing way.
If you don't have Replay, here's more information:
Are you able to share one of the videos here as an attachment? If they're trimmed already and the initial image of the video is not blank, it should be pulling in the thumbnail from the video itself.
If you can share one of the videos, I'd be happy to take a look.
I know this is an old thread, but I would love to have the ability to change the thumbnail of the videos in the media panel (and everywhere else, for that matter). I don't want to trim my videos--they're produced a certain way, and trimming them (and losing functionality) just to get a particular image to show up in the thumbnail is not a true solution.
Has any progress been made on this, or is there a timeline for this functionality? Thanks!
This is quite an old discussion! I don't see that there's been much more discussion in the last five years, and therefore not any movement to change this feature (Here's a bit more about how we work to prioritize feature requests.) Are you using Engage 360 to create this? If so, and you need to customize things a bit further you may want to look at how you're able to create anything you can dream inside Storyline 360! This article is really helpful to explain why and when to use each of the tools in Articulate 360.

Hi Shari,
You're using a Media Panel interaction, correct?

Yes, that is he engage feature I am using. The thumbnails aren't blank - the videos all start with a white screen, hence my issue.
Any ideas? Do I need to pic a different engage option.
This just looks awful on the screen to have them look blank.

They are trimmed as short as possible....I just need to change the thumbnail image.
