How to close a hyperlinked interaction in engage?

Jul 24, 2013

I hyperlinked an interaction to another interaction (original interaction slide) like a pop-up, and also created a close button linked back to the original interaction slide and it worked in powerpoint. However, after I published in Articulate the close button did not show at all!

Can anyone please help? Thank you!

Hi Ashley,

Thanks for your quick response. Attached please find my draft. Please note that may because I used the same engage interaction file for all four pieces of the pie, only the Platinum is really linked to that interaction (am I right?).

Looking forward to hearing back from you soon!

Your help is gratefully appreciated!

Grace

Hi Grace,

Thanks for sharing your file with me. What I noticed when I looked at it was a couple things:

First, you'll want to make sure the settings within the Interaction Properties are set like this image:

Next, there is a helpful thread here where Jeanette mentions a blog post that describes a way to link from one Engage interaction to another. This is not something supported by Articulate, but the directions are helpful as a work around. You'll also want to note that Jeanette mentioned how the Engage interactions can look a bit off by doing this, and it's because you'll need to have a Presenter slide before each interaction. The files you sent were having the same problem, and by inserting that blank slide it seemed to resolve the issue.

Hope that helps, and please let us know if you need anything else!

Hi Ashley,

Thanks for the help. After inserting the blank slides prior each of the interactions the first interaction linked to, the rendering issue has been resolved. However, these four linked interaction still could not link back to the first interaction. Please note that I inserted a text box with a "x" linking back to the first interaction, which worked fine in the powerpoint, but it didn't work after publishing with the Articulate. Another problem that I have is that added the slide 2 with a diagram created, but for some reason the diagram did not work properly after publishing with the Articulate either. Please see the attachment.

Please advise why, and how to resolve.

Thank you again!

Sincerely,

Grace

Hi Grace,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, I missed seeing the file last week. So I've looked into what's happening, and the method that you're currently using to link from the latter Engage interactions back to the original on slide 3, is something that would work in Powerpoint, but not in Presenter. So here is what I would do:

Keep the existing links you have from slide three to the blank slides in front of each of the latter interactions (currently only glass is showing, so you'll need to reinsert the others).

Place something on the blank slides so that the users know the interaction is still working (something as simple as "Loading interaction..." should suffice).

The interaction slides should appear and play as predicted. At the end of the interaction, set the link to return to a new blank slide before slide 3 where the menu is. This will replay slide 3, and the user will be able to select the next electrode item.

Hopefully that all makes sense! Let me know if you need further help.
