HTML 5 in Articulate Studio'09

Aug 16, 2012

Hi!

I have a course that is build in articulate studio products and of course it's Flash-based. Falsh is goiwng to disappear in the nearest future. My question is: will it be any update for Studio'09 so we can actually republish our course in HTML5?

Thank you

Olga

Hi Olga!

Actually we are working on the next version of Articulate Studio at this very moment. And all three tools within the suite (Presenter, Engage, and Quizmaker) will indeed offer the ability to publish for iPad as well as HTML5 (and of course you'll still have the option to publish to Flash as well).

You can check out a sneak peek of the features coming to Articulate Studio on this page: http://www.articulate.com/products/studio-preview.php

We will be beta testing the new Articulate Studio in the coming months. If you're interested in applying for the beta, you're welcome to do that be sending a message to beta@articulate.com.

In addition to the upcoming Studio update, a few months ago we released Articulate Storyline, which is a completely standalone product (it doesn't require PowerPoint) and it already allows you to publish for HTML5 and iPad. If you want, you can check it out here: http://www.articulate.com/products/storyline-overview.php

For a comparison of Storyline & Studio, here's a good list: http://www.articulate.com/products/storyline-studio.php

Hope that helps!

Over the past week or so, my Articulate modules have stopped playing for many of my customers. I have been able to reproduce the problem on Explorer 9, Chrome and Firefox and can no longer play the modules except through Review in Powerpoint

This module had 17 slides and is showing 100 of 160 and cannot be reset. All of the modules show the same status.

HELP!

Thank you Jeanette!

I use Stotyline for my new courses. I wonder when you are going to launch new Articulate Studio. I have another question about Storyline. I hope you can help me. Can I publish course in flash in Storyline? We would like to launch a new course that we did in flash first because a lot of people form our target group have older versions of Explorer. But we plan to launch the same course in HTML5 later as well. Do we need to publish two versions of the same course or is Storyline  smart enough to adapt the content depending on what web browser it is upploaded to? We are going to plublish the course for LMS. Thanks.

Best regards,

Olga

Hi Olga,

We haven't yet set a release date for the next version of Studio. But we'll be starting the beta soon. You're welcome to send an email to beta@articulate.com if you'd like to be considered as a beta tester.

Regarding Storyline, yes, when you publish a course, the resulting output will be Flash and whatever other formats you choose (HTML5 or iPad). Keep in mind, though, that there are some differences in the way HTML5 and iPad output handle different features in yhour course... so it's important to know about those differences before you begin designing your course. Here's a document which lists the differences:

Hi Terry, yes, you only need to publish once, and Storyline will generate whatever content formats you choose. (Check out this article for details about how Storyline determines which format to show to your learners, based on their browser and device.)

Keep in mind though, that if you want to track & report on your mobile learners' progress & results, you'll need to do one of the following:

  • Deploy your course from Articulate Online: Articulate Online fully supports tracking users who view your course with the Articulate Mobile Player on an iPad. When you publish, choose Articulate Online as your publish option, and mark the checkbox to "Use Articulate Mobile Player on iPad." Find out more about publishing to Articulate Online here.
    ...or...
  • Deploy your course from an LMS which supports the Tin Can API: Tin Can is a communication specification which allows learning management systems to receive tracking data from mobile apps. When you publish, choose LMS as your publish option, and mark the checkbox to “Use Articulate Mobile Player on iPad.” (If your LMS provider doesn’t yet support Tin Can API, we recommend that you urge them to do so.) Find out more about publishing for LMS here.
    ...or...
  • Deploy your course as HTML5 content, and have learners access it from your LMS with a browser that supports HTML5: This is a good option if you’re using an LMS which does not support Tin Can API and if learners will use an iPad or other device which doesn’t support Flash. When you publish, choose LMS as your publish option, and mark the checkbox to “Include HTML5 output. Find out more about publishing for LMS here.
