Links in Glossary not working properly

Jan 15, 2016

Hi,

I don't know if anyone would  have a solution for this, but I created a Glossary in Engage '13, and made it available on the Resource tab in my presentation.  There are a few links that go out to other websites.  When I click on them, they go to the site, but I am not able to navigate through the site.  It's as if I get a screen shot of the site, but am not on the actual site.

I've used links in other Engage projects before with no issues, so I was wondering if this was a glitch with glossaries. I've attached a snapshot of the website so you can see that there are no scroll bars or anything.  I blocked out the majority of the website (I work for the government and did not want to show anything I shouldn't have).

Please let me know if there is a solution to this!

Thanks!

Hi, Darrin -- Thanks for reaching out with your question! May I ask if you are testing your content in the intended environment as described here?

As noted, "If you view published Articulate Engage content on your local hard drive or send it to someone else to view on their local hard drive, you'll encounter security restrictions from the computer, web browser, Flash Player, and network that'll cause various features to fail. To test your content and share it with others, you'll need to upload it to the environment for which it was published."

Hi and thanks for responding to my post!

Yes, I am placing it on the main server that we post all of our eLearning presentations to. I don't recall having this issue in Engage '09, but I usually put the links on a slide in PowerPoint, and not in the Engage.

I was going to try some of the suggestions for the same type of issue in Presenter, but Engage doesn't have many editing features.

Thanks for looking into this!

I noticed a couple things.  First, I went back into the file and checked the URL, but it was missing.  I didn't know if it reset itself when I went in, but there's no "edit hyperlink" option.  I put them back in.  Also, I didn't know if "www" had to be part of the URL to work.  These link to intranet sites so normally they do not have the "www" on them.  You may not be able to display the sites because you won't have permission to do so, but hopefully you can shed some light on the situation.

Thanks again!

Hi, Darrin -- Many thanks for your continued patience as I test your course! Please click on this link for your published output to the SCORM Cloud, and you will see that the links for the 2nd and 5th entries do in fact work properly and I am able to navigate those pages without issue (they open in new windows). Would it be possible for you to provide me with the actual web addresses of the links you would like to use for the 1st, 3rd, and 4th entries, and I will see what more I can do?

Another note, I made a CD of the presentation for the Producer to view, and when she used the CD the links showed up fine when she clicked on them. I'm wondering now if it's some security thing on our end, even though we are authorized to use the site....

My apologies, that didn't come through on the email I received. Here are the links:

http://aims.ssahost.ba.ssa.gov/

http://mwww.ba.ssa.gov/regulations/index.htm

http://personnel.ba.ssa.gov/ope/PMISPS/virtuallib/PPM.htm

When I clicked on the link in the SCORM cloud, ALL of the links worked properly.  Maybe because the file isn't approved and finalized on our server, that's why the links aren't working properly?  I say that because the CD is finalized and self contained, so maybe the links are the same.  Our eval links at the end of the presentations don't go live until they are published, so maybe it's the same for the links, which is why we get a screenshot with no functionality.

Just a thought!

Hi, Darrin -- Thanks again for your patience as we continue to try to assist you here!

I think you may be correct with your theory above, as I was not able to open/access any of the new links you provided. Here is the error screen I received for each:

As you stated, perhaps the issue will be resolved when your eval links will go live after they are published. Please provide an update after they are live and let us know if issues persist! :)
