I have many images added to my presentation in which I've checked the "Zoom Image: In Current Window" button. Is there a way to make it mandatory that the reader click on the zoomed image before moving on to the next slide?
There isn't a way to require learners to interact with an image zoom in a slide, that I'm aware of.
However, I do think that this would be a pretty interesting and useful feature for some situations. I would recommend sending in a suggestion. Try to provide as much detail as possible and share an example of a project where this type of functionality would be really useful to you and others that are developing with Engage.
In the meantime, if you're able to find a way to accomplish this, I'd love to hear about it.

Good luck with the project! :)
Thank you for your feedback! I will send that in as a suggestion.
