Pointing at zones rather than specific place

Apr 06, 2012

Hi all

So far I'm pretty disappointed with Engage: there is always a limitation that prevents me for using it. This time if I don't find a way around I will have to split everything in 12 slides in Presenter again. Unless you clever people find a better solution.

Here is what I want to achieve: I have an illustration of a machine. This illustration doesn't change. I have explanations in 12 steps to explain how this machine works. I need to point at several parts of the machine at the same time and not only at one piece of it. But the Guided Image or other types of interactions only allow me to point at something with an arrow, not use a rectangle shape for example like what we have with annotations in Presenter.

Is there a way around or do I have to create 12 slides in Presenter?

Many thanks.

Hi Helene.

Honestly,  I wouldn't really consider using Engage if that's what you are trying to do. Engage is a tool that provides pre-built, templated interactions. If what you are thinking about doesn't work within one of them, then I would try something else. You might be able to create a community interaction to achieve what you are looking to do but it sounds like PowerPoint would be the easiest way to achieve what you are trying to accomplish.

Well actually what I did yesterday to avoid creating 12 slides and having to recheck all my links later (I noticed that adding slides or deleting slides in a project ALWAYS result in creating errors in my branching or else ) I created 12 pictures and created a process-type interaction. It is really a shame that the Guided Image only allows pointers and no shapes like in the annotations. I'm sure it would be possible to develop it. I should suggest that to the developers team!

I didn't know about the community interaction but from what I've seen it wouldn't suit my objective. good to know about that anyway for future projects! Thanks Justin.
