Presenter course needs to be LINEAR, but not Engage

May 02, 2011

We have a course built in Articulate Presenter and we need it to be linear/gated, however we do not want the Engage activities to be linear/gated. They need to be free-form and have the ability to be skipped by the user.  I understand the global settings in Presenter rule. Any suggestions for workarounds would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

What you could do is use the No Sidebar view as the only available view in Presenter:

This will lock someone in terms of having to go through a course in order of the slides without actually restricting the navigation. you could then set up the properties of the Engage interaction to allow the user to view the interaction in any order or skip them:

Thanks Justin, that is a great idea. For our purposes, I am concerned about losing the table of contents in the sidebar view. First, the table of contents allows a glimpse of what is to come, and it is very useful for our users to go back and review portions of their training in the future.

We are currently trying this workaround: Placing some of our Engage activities in the drop down tabs, just like the Help and Glossary. These Engage files do not contain core content, so this may work. For example, we have a "Labeled Graphic" Engage activity that simply shows course navigation. Once this Engage activity is moved to a tab, the course itself will contain a slide that introduces the Engage activity and asks users to click on the tab above.

Thanks for your quick response - our course launches tomorrow!
