Published Presentation Not Workiing

May 14, 2013

I am making updates to some Engage files that were created by my predecessor.  The engage files were set up to run on a custom skin in Presenter 09. Unfortunately when I update the engage files and publish to my C drive and then place on the Net storage so that course can be accessed from the web, the entire course tries to open but hangs.  It appears that the course is looking for a file that it can't find.  Everything works fine on my local drive, but not on the web server.

I did notice that the Engage output files that I modified are labeled as engage_content, engage.html and engage.swf, but in the original files created by my predecessor, the files are labeled as resources_content, engage.html and resources.swf.  If try and rename it the Engage files does not play.  Could it be that the custom skin may have been set to call a file labeled ":resources" and since I no longer have that file name that it does not see it?

FYI, the Engage is published as a separate web file and not part of the presenter document. The Engage is called by the custom flash skin.

Any assistance is appreciated.

Hi there L,

Sounds like it may be an issue with the names, but if it works locally, I'm not quite sure that's the case.

Did your predecessor share a Presenter Package with you, along with the original INTR files, etc.? Or did they just zip or share the "loose" files?

Also, what type of server are you trying to use? You mentioned storage - I just want to make sure you're using a true "host" sever, web server or LMS for the content. If you're using a storage service, such as Dropbox, or network drive, there may be some issues running the presentations.

Thanks!

Hi L,

Thanks for getting back to me. I see, so the server is actually intended for storage, then, not an actual host?

It may be worth testing the course elsewhere, to see if that's where the trouble exists. You can try uploading the presentation to Tempshare, use the free trial for Articulate Online, or even SCORM Cloud for testing.

I would also make sure the directory or link provided to the Engage INTR files is correct. It sounds like they were linking to them as attachments, but without seeing it, it's difficult to say. I'm also not sure how the custom skin works, so it may be an issue with that as well.

If you continue to have trouble with this, we'd be happy to take a look at what's going on. Please create an Articulate Presenter package by following the steps in the following article:
