Recording narration in Checklist interaction

Apr 23, 2014

I have been recording several Engage interaction built it Studio '13. I opened a Checklist interaction to record the narration, clicked the Record button and the countdown started. It stopped at "Start recording in 1 seconds" and won't progress. I've tried closing and re-opening, closing interaction and PowerPoint and re-opening, but can't clear out the hiccup. It does this on every item. Any suggestions?

Hi Darlene,

If this is the first time you've seen this happen in an interaction, and you're still having trouble, try restarting the machine.

If that doesn't help, please make sure you're working with a local interaction file.

  • Work on your local drive (your C: drive). Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, including file corruption, loss of audio, and other unexpected behavior.
  • You should also make sure the directory path to your project files and your published output is less than 260 characters (for example C:\Articulate).
  • Avoid using special characters, accents or symbols in your file names (this includes spaces and underscores).

Additional information regarding "Naming Files, Paths, and Namespaces" in Windows operating systems can be found in the following Microsoft article.

Let me know if you still have trouble with this.

Thanks!

I moved my presentation to my hard drive and was able to record narration on that interaction. I have a Tabs interaction in the same presentation that will not record, even though the files were moved. I deleted it and created a new Tabs interaction, but the same thing happened when I went to record it - won't countdown past 1 second. Could there be a bug in this interaction? Now I have to create another new interaction. Frustrating.

Hi Darlene,

Thank you for the additional information and I'm so sorry to hear that you're still having trouble with this.

If the issue persists on your local hard drive, see if you're able to record via PowerPoint:

  • PowerPoint 2013: Go to the Insert tab, click Audio, and choose Record Audio.
  • PowerPoint 2010: Go to the Insert tab, click Audio, and choose Record Audio.
  • PowerPoint 2007: Go to the Slide Show tab, and click Record Narration.

If not, it's likely there's an issue with your sound card or microphone. Make sure your sound card is working and your microphone is plugged into the correct port. You may also need to install the latest drivers for your sound card and microphone.

Let me know if you see any improvement.

Thanks!
