Restricting Navigation and Engage

Sep 20, 2011

I was recently reproducing the Jeanette Brook's tutorial using master slides with the Engage Labled Graphic(http://community.articulate.com/blogs/jeanette/archive/2010/12/07/use-an-engage-labeled-graphic-to-create-a-hover-over-effect-in-your-course.aspx).

On my slide properties, I have the navigation restricted to not allow the learner to move forward without viewing the current slide.  On my Engage properties, I have "Allow user to leave interaction set" to "After Viewing All Steps."

The problem is after clicking each icon, the Navigation on the Engage module and the Presenter navigation will not move forward.  I get the, "you must view the entire....." pop-up.  BUT, if I click the icons several times, it will let me move forward.

Has anyone had this problem as well?

Hi Ian,

Does your Engage interaction contain audio?  You may find that an Engage '09 interaction in a Presenter '09 presentation does not fully complete if the last step of the interaction contains audio.  If this occurs, you may notice that the Play button on the Presenter player does not flash to indicate that the viewer is able to proceed, or you may not be able to proceed to the next slide if the navigation in your player template is set to Restricted.

You can correct this issue.  Here's how:

  • Open your presentation in PowerPoint.
  • Navigate to the interaction slide, and click the Edit in Engage button.
  • When Engage launches, select the last step of your interaction.
  • Click the Edit Audio button.
  • When the Audio Editor launches, either delete a small portion of silence at the end of the audio waveform, or insert 1 second of silence at the end of the audio waveform.  Essentially, you want to slightly change the duration of this last step in the interaction.
  • Click the Save & Close button.
  • Click the Save and Return to Presenter button.
  • Republish your presentation.

Please let me know if you continue to have issues.
