searching and selecting from default fonts

Aug 14, 2013

I do not have the budget or permissions to buy fonts. I must use the fonts available within MS Office and Engage.

I've been trying to find the right fonts for a new project. When I use websites such as fonts.com to search for fonts that match my key words I'm presented with a lot of fonts that are available for purchase. I need a tool that searches only fonts available in Engage and MS Office, or one that given a font name can tell me the best match within Engage and Office.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Paula, welcome to the E-Learning Heroes community. Are you wanting to see what the fonts look like visually? One way you can browse the fonts you have is to open the folder where the fonts are stored. ( For Windows 7 they are in C:\Windows\Fonts )  Any of the icon views will display a sample of the fonts you have. From there you can right click any font and select Preview to get a better view.

Is that the sort of thing you are looking for?

Visually scanning the fonts folder has been helpful.

I'm doing a lot of software simulation training. I'm trying to match the fonts in the training to what learners will see in the actual system. So I've been using Identifont. Generally Identifont will find the correct font, then prompt me to buy it.

What I want is something similar to identifont that will only search fonts available in MS Office. Or something that given a font can tell me the closest font matches in the MS Office defaults. Do either of these things exist?
