Tab Interaction Nav Buttons Unexpectedly Disabled
Jul 04, 2011
Hi Group
I was experiencing a problem in the TAB Engage interaction and eventually found the answer. I was interested to know if anyone else had encountered it, or if it was just me. Regardless, maybe the ultimate answer will help someone in the future as I wasn't able to see any sign of the issue on the web...
My TAB interaction had free navigation and could exit at any time. It also had an Intro screen, but no summary screen. All pretty standard.
The problem was that the interaction's next and prev buttons (at the top of the interaction) were both inactive (grey and unresponsive) UNTIL I clicked one of the tabs on the left of the interaction. Then the nav buttons enabled and behaved normally. I.e. I wasn't able to use the nav buttons to navigate off the Intro phase of the interaction.
After a lot of hair pulling and systematic property setting/unsetting, I realised that it was happening because the interaction's 'Animation Steps' property was set to 'Appear'. By changing the property to Full or Fade the buttons behaved as I'd hope.
Hope that helps someone in the future.

I'm experiencing the same issue with an Engage Interaction that someone else created. However, it's not a TAB interaction. It's just a general Engage Interaction within a course, so I'm stumped as how to fix this. Can anyone help?
Thanks,
Victoria
At the time I did this original post, I think this symptom happened on several different Engage interactions, e.g. FAQ, Triangle ...
So, I'd try changing the Interaction Property 'Animate steps using' to Full or Fade and see if it helps.
Good luck!
Thank you, Pete.
My problem was I didn't know where to change the Animate Style. Found it in the Essential Articulate Studio '09 book. It's working now after changing it to Full.
Thanks again! This was a big time saver!
