using previously created swf or html files from Engage 09 in course

Mar 30, 2016

My previous course was infected with a virus and I'm having to recreate the course.  I can't locate the original engage course files on my backup hard drive (any idea where they might be located? they're not in my articulate or my quizmaker folders).  Regardless, I have located the output from engage when it created the interactions.  There are an swf file and an html file that are accessible and when I click on them generate the interaction which appears to be fully functional.  I am hoping I can insert the swf or html into my powerpoint where the engage interactions were as a work around.  Will this be possible?  I know I will have to load the swf or html onto my server to be accessed.  I'm assuming I will have to load the entire engage output folder as well.  I'm trying to avoid having to rebuild the entire interaction as this will be very time consuming.

Hi, Guy -- So sorry to hear you lost your file, and unfortunately, it will not be possible to generate a source file from the published output folder you were able to locate. However, there may still be a working version of your project in your temp files. Here's how to check:

1) Open this folder in Windows Explorer: %appdata%\Articulate\Engage

2) Scan the contents of this folder for a file that starts with the name of your project. If you find one, copy it to your desktop. If you find more than one, copy the latest version to your desktop.

3) Change the file extension of the copy on your desktop from *.tmp to *.intr.

4) Double-click the file to open it in Engage.

Otherwise, I'm sorry to say, it may be necessary to recreate your file from scratch, and you may find this article for Tips to Reduce Your Risk of Corrupting or Losing Project Files to be helpful in the future.
