'09 to '13 - SWF Files in Engage are messed up!

Sep 02, 2015

Hi wonderful community :)

I just upgraded from Studio '09 to '13 - but the conversions have completely ruined my slides and I have no idea how to fix it.

I have always uploaded SWF files that were part of the Presenter output, and then uploaded them into Engage as flash files.

As you can see from the attached, they look horrendous now.

1. Any idea how to fix?

2. If not possible, I hope I can downgrade back to '09. Any one know? :(

Thanks guys!!

Hi John,

From your first few images, I'm not sure I'm clear on the issue you're encountering - in the last few I can see that elements are not appearing the same, almost as if there is more visible in one set up vs. the other.  I'm also unclear on what you mean about the SWF file from the Presenter output into the Engage - but perhaps you could share a Presenter package here with us so that we could take a look at what you've got set up? If you need to you can also share here with our Support engineers.

Hi Ashley,

Thanks so much for getting back to me.

The problem with the first few images is that the '13 version have these big thick borders above and below. How do I remove?

The last few images, the elements in '13 look very different - almost zoomed out with a strange square shaped object in the background. Please see attached. Compare to 09 version.

In terms about the SWF file - in order to insert a SWF file from Presenter into Engage, I've always 'Published to web', and then fished the relevant SWF file from the output folders and then placed it into Engage.

I'm trying to share the presenter package, but I get the attached error message!

I then tried to create a new presenter package with new engage files (using SWFs from '13 Presenter output), but I can't do that  - see error message 2!

As such, I've attaches an .intr file that has some of these SWFs from '13 Presenter output - note that they have the square box and zoom is off.

Thanks so much for your help...

Hi Jono,

So with the border issue,  Presenter supports custom slide sizes, but Engage dimensions are fixed at 720 pixels wide by 540 pixels high. As a result, interactions in Presenter may not fill the slide. If your PowerPoint dimensions are anything other than 10 inches wide by 7.5 inches high, embedded interactions will be centered on the slide and, if necessary, scaled down to fit within the slide.

For the odd background image you're seeing, it looks like a remnant of where the "personal details" title was in Engage 09, is  now moved in Engage '13? I'd want to see the .intr file to be sure.

As for your SWF behavior, I can't offer support for grabbing a file from the published output to place inside Engage. I'm wondering if some of the error messages you're seeing are from taking Presenter SWF files, inserting into Engage, and then trying to insert those back into Presenter? Are all the images you've shared using that same set up?
