Adding a Presenter Video Error

Apr 02, 2014

Hi,

I'm trying to add a presenter video to a new presentation. I go to the insert tab on the Articulate ribbon, click the "Flash" button, select the presentation.swf file, and then make it so it starts in a new window from the existing published presentation. I can click through the entire presentation during the insert preview, but once I publish the entire presentation, the following error appears when I get to the slide that is supposed to launch the inserted presentation video in a new window:

ERROR: Could not load the file 'video_cf60ed6b-11ef-4917-9ac0-bd9325ee9806_22_482_content/data.swf'

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks,

Melissa Mitchell

Hi Melissa!

Are you testing from the intended environment. Be sure that you are not still trying to view locally.

If you view published Articulate Presenter content on your local hard drive or send it to someone else to view on their local hard drive, you'll encounter security restrictions from the computer, web browser, Flash Player, and network that'll cause various features to fail. To test your content and share it with others, you'll need to upload it to the environment for which it was published. Here's how.

Hi, Leslie

Thanks for your reply! I had been looking at it on my local hard drive, so I uploaded it to our LMS to test. I still received the same error. I'm basically trying to insert a published presenter content SWF into another PPT, which I will publish as well.  So it's like a video within a video. Is that doable? I'm assuming that's what the Add Presenter Video piece is for, but I wanted to make sure you know what I mean by inserting a video.

Is it possible there's something wrong with the SWF file? Or the way the properties are setup within my PPT? I've shared files with you guys before to gain some insight - is that something I should do with you?

Let me know either way!

Again, I very much appreciate your help.

Thanks,

Melissa

Ah, thanks for the clarification Melissa.

Add Presenter Video is used for adding a video to the sidebar of your course. These are used for narrating a course or to supplement your slide content.

We do not support publishing Presenter to an SWF file nor is this file meant to function as a stand-alone, which is why it is not working for you.

Hi Melissa,

Articulate projects rely on multiple files instead of just the data.swf file that you're trying to insert.  So, when you insert it and view it in the preview, it loads and plays correctly because it's playing that .swf file it's current location.  Once you click OK and import it, then just the data.swf file is imported into your project.  Thus, when you publish it, it doesn't have the other files that it needs to play.

You can, however, accomplish this by using web objects.  Check out the screencast below:

Keep in mind that you can only insert web objects on the slide.

I appreciate your clarification as well, Leslie. Thanks to you both. Now, can one of you point me to a screencast that explains how to optimize the publish so the web object looks okay on the slide? In the screencast above they talk about optimization, but I'm not sure where to look to do that.

Thanks, again!
