Advance Slide Options - Hybrid between auto advance and user advance?

Feb 03, 2020

Within Articulate Presenter, is it possible to make it so that a learner must wait for a certain period of time (for example, 20 seconds) before they may click to advance to the next slide?

It seems like there's only two options in Presenter:

(1) the slide automatically advances after a determined period of time

(2) the learner can click to advance at any point

We would like to "gate" the learner so that they may click to advance, but only after they've spend about 20 seconds on it.

Hi Brittany,

Happy to help! You can restrict the course, as well as set the slide duration following these steps!

  1. Restrict Navigation - In the Articulate tab, click the Player icon and select Menu. Click on the Additional Options gear icon ⚙️at the bottom and change the Menu option drop-down to Restricted or Locked.
  2. Change Slide Duration - In the Articulate tab, click the Presenter  ⚙️Options button, and in the Publish tab, change the Default slide duration to 20 seconds.

After that, you should be good to go!

Hi Ren,

Thank you very much for the help! Both of those things worked and helped me "gate" the learning.

The other thing I did was go into Slide Properties and change the "Advance" to "By User", so that when the time was up on the slide, the learner could advance on their own (versus having the slide automatically advance, which would be a problem if they weren't done reading).

Thanks again!
Brittany

Hi Vindi,

Yes, you can choose whether the slide advances by a learner action on the slide or by the slide navigation buttons. More on the slide properties is available here but I have also recorded a short Peek for you to show you how one slide can have custom navigation and another can use the player.
