Animations not being rendered properly

Jul 07, 2014

I am publishing a course using Articulate Presenter 13 and it isn't honoring all of the animations I developed. Some motion paths are going in reverse, some wipe animations are going the wrong direction. For example, going from the bottom instead of from the left or the right. This is sporadic and changes with every instance of when I publish the course.

Is there a known way to ensure that my animations in PPT are honored by the publishing process?

Hi Mark!

When creating, editing, and publishing Articulate Presenter '13 courses, be sure you're working on your local hard drive (typically your C: drive). Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, such as file corruption, an inability to save changes, and loss of resources.

Does this issue occur in multiple projects or does it only seem to be happening in one?

It turns out that I was trying out the HTML5 rendering and it doesn't seem to render animations as well as the Flash side does. Ironically, it is the same behavior I experienced with Flash with Presenter 09. Now it seems that Flash renders animations much better in 13 than 09. I did have some issues with animations that involved multiple items occurring "With Previous" and when a motion path is involved. I couldn't get it to work so I eventually changed the animation type and it is now working. It seems to be a matter of experimenting. Some things are erratic, others are consistent.

I see this in all Articulate projects I develop. Yes, I'm working from the C drive because I learned the USB problem with the 09 product.

Mark,

So is your problem resolved? I'm having similar animation problems using Presenter '09, for eample:

· Text boxes displaying prematurely (without text)

· Animated object’s arrow (a portion of) missing

· Arrows displaced after WBT production. (Arrows do not point to the appropriate function.)

Three of us have confirmed that the .pptx files are crated properly. I am also working from my C drive.

Hi Elaine,

I'm not sure if Mark's issue is resolved, but I wanted to stop by to see if I could be of some assistance.

I'm glad you were able to confirm you're working locally, but it may also help to check the paths and file names in your project:

  • Work on your local drive (your C: drive). Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, including file corruption, loss of audio, and other unexpected behavior.
  • You should also make sure the directory path to your project files and your published output is less than 260 characters (for example C:\Articulate).
  • Avoid using special characters, accents or symbols in your file names (this includes spaces and underscores).

Additional information regarding "Naming Files, Paths, and Namespaces" in Windows operating systems can be found in the following Microsoft article.

Since you're seeing a lot of issues with animations and text, it might be a good idea to also check your DPI:

Articulate Studio '09 is only supported with a system DPI setting of 96. If you're using a DPI setting other than 96, you'll encounter erratic behavior in the desktop applications and the published output. The following list provides some examples of unexpected behavior that you may encounter:

* Elements of the application appear misplaced or distorted.
* When previewing, content is distorted.
* The published output is distorted or doesn't display correctly.
* Annotations are misplaced.
* Lengthy slide notes won't scroll when recording narration.
* Your logo doesn't display correctly.
To resolve these issues, change your system's DPI to 96. Here's how.
It may also help to determine whether or not this happens only for a specific project. Please try creating a new, blank Presenter '09 presentation and attempt to add some text and animations. Do you see the same issues in the new file?
Let us know how it goes!
Best,
Christine

Thank you, Christine.

Actually, my file names have included underscores since that's the format that our LMS prefers for publishing. I'll try changing the names and see if this helps. I'll also try creating a new project as you suggest.

Could the file naming convention also be contributing to our latest problem: reviewers not being able to access the link to the PDF attachment?

Hi Elaine,

It's possible - I've seen some strange behavior as a result of this. Though, it could be something entirely different. It's really a matter of figuring out what's behind the issue and without testing the file personally, it's a process of elimination :)

If you try modifying the names and you still see issues, you're certainly welcome to create and share an Articulate Package here. We'd be happy to take a look and see what's happening. Please keep in mind, however, that the forums only currently supports files up to 20 MB. If your project exceeds this size, please let me know and we'll discuss other options for sharing the file.

Please let me know how it goes!

Christine
