This is a really weird one and has happened from day one.
When publishing a course (90% of the time to SCORM 1.2) my copy/paste functionality is rendered useless because the paste seems to select random objects from within the course instead of what was copied. Weird, huh?
Not an issue with 5 min publications, but not good when having to wait 20+ mins on a longer one.
Hello Simon, yeah, Presenter does use the clipboard during the publishing process, so this is why you're seeing items from your course if you attempt to paste anything into another application. What you can do, though, if you need to use the clipboard while publishing a long presentation, is pause publishing temporarily by hitting the Cancel button on the window where Presenter displays the publishing progress. You'll then see a confirmation window that says: ""Are you sure you want to exit publishing?" Don't click Yes - just leave the window up on your screen while you do whatever you need to do with your clipboard. Then when you're done and want to finish publishing, hit the NO button on the confirmation screen and Presenter will pick up where it left off.
Thanks Jeanette, I'm sure your idea works perfectly, but I don't trust s/w that has a pause or cancel/restart option - especially when installing or compiling. Even more so when the process can take 20+ mins each time. Just me being cautious and not distrusting AP in particular.
Think I'll just continue to forget copy/paste even exists (it can be done.)
I've always wondered why that happened, but never thought to ask! Jeanette's explanation makes perfect sense.
James, are you saying that if I do accidentally do a copy and paste while publishing, that the course won't publish correctly? It's never occurred to me to re-publish when that happens... of course I always review/test after publishing and I often find things I have to fix or that aren't working properly, but it's never occurred to me it might be because of the copy and paste thing...
This conversation was well before my time here at Articulate, so I've never seen this behavior. I just tested copying/pasting some text while my course was publishing in the background and cannot recreate the issue shared here.
Is this an issue you are currently experiencing?
If so, then with your permission, I'd like to take a look at your project file to investigate what's happening. You can share it publicly here, or send it to me privately by uploading it here. I'll delete it when I'm done troubleshooting.

I have to force myself to walk away from the computer when publishing big files... I can't resist the urge to copy/paste!
but its fun to copy/paste and see what you get! Articulate Publishing Lotto!
My solution is the same as James, or use a laptop whilst I am publishing.
I still keep fprgetting even today I was cutting and pasting on a web page and could not work out why it wasnt working.
I am disapointed though, I only visted here because I thought Jeanette, James or Dwayne had an elegant solution
:-(

Funny!
Sure... exciting for a second.. but then you realize you now have to republish your course!

Ditto! I didn't realise how much I used copy/paste until I started publishing courses!
Publishing is a good excuse to make another cup of tea though
Is this fixed in the next Articulate Studio?
Is this fixed in 360?

Hello Leslie - We are not seeing any problems but I was wondering if this was fixed. It sounds like it was fixed long ago. Thank you.
Got it! Glad to be able to help, April.
