Articulate 13 updated project - no audio

Jun 03, 2014

I have several Articulate 09 projects I need to update to 13.  Some have audio (spoken) AND music added via playlist.  (by audio, I mean narration files - MP3 -  which was added via import audio)

Those that have audio but no music are working just fine.  Those that include music/playlist have no sound at all after publishing in 13.  (this seems to be consistent and the only difference as far as I can tell)

I have removed the music (under slide properties) but still when I publish there is no audio at all.

I have also removed/re-imported the audio with the same results.

Does anyone have an idea of where to go next?

Your help is appreciated!!

Thanks for the article, Leslie.  As far as I can tell none of the situations apply here.

I'm working on a local drive

no extra ppt or ppta or pptx files are in the folder

the folder and file are not exactly the same

files are not hidden

communicator add in is not disabled

Other files are working just fine - even WITH extra ppt or ppta or pptx or the backup files in those folders.

Is there anything else you can think of??

Not sure what to do.  Especially since removing and reading the audio is still getting same results.  This means I can't even 'redo' that work to get it corrected.

thanks again for your help

Interesting. So, if it's just the one file, perhaps there is some corruption.

Have you tried to re-use this project in a new file?

  1. Open a blank presentation in PowerPoint.
  2. Save the presentation.
  3. Click the Home tab.
  4. Click the drop-down arrow beside New Slide and select Reuse Slides.
  5. Click the Browse button and select Browse File.
  6. Locate your original PowerPoint file and click the Open button.
  7. At the bottom of the Reuse Slides panel, select the Keep source formatting check box.
  8. Right click the first slide in the Reuse Slides panel and select Insert All Slides.
  9. Save the new presentation and republish.

Note:  Resources, such as audio and video, that you inserted via Articulate Presenter into the original presentation will need to be inserted again into the new presentation.  You may need to export the narration from your original presentation.  Then import it into the new presentation.

Hi Connie,

I am experiencing the same issue. And it is not with just a single file on my end (I had 2 this morning), so I do not believe it is a corruption issue. Actually my team is experiencing this issue with multiple files, and the update of 09 to 13 files consistently drops the naration/audio.

The issue with the solution provided is that often, we rely on the audio that is part of the Articulate package as the 'source' audio. We often record directly into the presentation using the Articulate ribbon add-in (record narration) as opposed to imported from external WAV files. If you did not think to export your audio from the PPTX/PPTA file previously from 09 (for us, sometimes 3+ years ago) you LOSE your audio.

Our best practice now is to always export the audio WAV files from Articulate to have on-hand for next upgrade!

I'm having the same problem only I did use the Articulate Presenter narration (NOT Powerpoint) to record the video. The audio can be heard in preview mode but not when I publish for LMS in Presenter 13. I checked all the points in your article on audio issues and none apply. I exported the audio files and reimported into each slide--still no audio. I do not have the time or money to re-record all the audio for the many, many articulate presentations I built in '09. If I had know about this problem--if you had ANYWHERE mentioned that this was an issue--I NEVER would have upgraded. Please help!

I'm not sure if this thread is still active, but I'm having issues with my presentation as well.

My recorded narration plays just fine. However, my background music added into Slide Properties on the Articulate Tab will not play. I've created many presentations without experiencing this issue, so I'm not a novice with the software. I know that the presentation settings are correct and I've already tried to create a new presentation in a new folder. I've also attempted to the preview in a different browser and even on a different network just to be safe.

Any help would be appreciated. I'm simply looking to add background music to a file published for LMS.

Hi there Nathan! Yup, we're still here! Thanks for reaching out about this. 😊

You mentioned the background music added in Slide Properties on the Articulate Tab will not play, and this happens in multiple browsers.

Are you testing the published file locally, or is it hosted on a learning management system?

Also, did you use Studio '13 or Studio 360 to create this presentation?

Nathan Bayless

I apologize for the delayed response. I was so frustrated that I gave up. I'm making another attempt with a different presentation.

I'm using Studio '13 with Windows 10 to publish as an LMS file. I've tried viewing in IE, Microsoft Edge, Firefox, and Chrome, but no music plays. When I preview, the presentation prior to publishing, music DOES play, however.

I've also already tried reinstalling the Articulate software.

Advice?

Quick update: It looks like the issue was with the audio playlist not working because Flash Player wasn't enabled in the browser. Note: Audio playlists are separate from audio files that are imported.

Enabling Flash Player in the browser solved the issue. Just a heads up that as support for Flash Player will end with modern browsers by 2020, you'll want to consider importing your audio differently so that it continues to play in HTML5 output.
