Articulate and PPT are not behaving.

Mar 01, 2012

I know the idea of integration of Articulate into Powerpoint is very noble, but I am frustrated that a good percentage of my time is wasted waiting for Powerpoint restarts.

I am using a virgin laptop with fresh copies of all the software and system and yet, the error messages are piling up (and I've captured at least a couple of dozen.

I'm not sure what to do here, as Powerpoint 2010is constantly prompting me to uninstall the Articulate plugin and I am getting tempted to do that and look for a solution outside of Articulate to allow some progress to be made in my development of this courseware.

Anyone else having issues? Maybe the two versions are not compatible? Maybe I am not doing something correctly? I've been a Mac PowerUser for many years and I have not seen such instability in commercial software such as this - that I can remember anyway. My other fear is that I must do something I've NEVER done before - drag myself over to the IT department and beg them for help.

Signed,

Frustrated

Hey John, welcome to Heroes!

Sorry for the frustration. Let's get you up and running. First off, what version of Office are you running? Articulate is only supported by the 32-bit, non-Click to Run version

Please also verify that you have enabled any disabled items needed to run Presenter.

You mentioned you've been getting some error messages. Mind sharing those with us? Is this one of them?:

PowerPoint experienced a serious problem with the ‘articulate presenter ribbon’ add-in. If you have seen this message multiple times, you should disable this add-in and check to see if an update is available. Do you want to disable this add-in?

Disable Articulate Presenter Ribbon?

PowerPoint may attempt to disable add-ins, such as Articulate Presenter, after it experiences a crash or otherwise closes unexpectedly.  If this is the first time you have encountered this message, simply click the No button, and proceed with your project development.

Be sure that your presentations, quizzes, interactions, and audio / video resources are located on your local hard drive (this is typically your C: drive).  Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Hi John,

Many of us are using PPT 2010 and aren't having issues with instability.  I see this is your first post on the forum. Could you give us some more specific information about what the problem is?  This community forum has a very large base of helpful users as well as Articulate company representatives here to assist.

Could you look at this support article and see if this is the error message you are seeing?

And even though you have a new laptop with fresh copies of the software, that doesn't mean you might not need to reinstall microsoft office. Sometimes brand new software or hardware has some glitches and needs a kick start!

Hi Peter,

Everything seems like it's set up to work. I checked everything. If you would like, I can send you all the captures, as well as the PPT version info. Where should I send those?

I have seen that screen you show at least 8 times and I always say NO since I know I need the plugin enabled. Also, the most current issue I have is that when I combined my 3 PPT projects into one and I was trying to arrange the navigation, etc., in the Slide Properties, I noticed (and this happens every time) that the slides which were numbered "0" in the 3 documents seem to be missing from the list or not represented in the thumbnails. But, that's not the final blow. That occurs when I choose to Save the changes and PPT goes into some kind of trance and serves up the spinning blue bagel or whatever that thing is.

Thanks for the additional info, John. It does sound to me like it's an issue with the install of Office. At this time, I'd suggest you submit a ticket to our excellent support engineers. They'll be able to work closely with you to quickly pinpoint and troubleshoot the issue. You can do that here. We really appreciate your patience, and look forward to helping you find a resolution. Thanks!
