Was wondering how you plan to deal with the increasing amount of iPad users. I know that in my company they are running pilots with them but my Articulate courses won't run on them :( Are you looking into a Publish for iPad or other solution like publishing a course to HMTL5 or something like that?
we have just gone through ipad and android tablet grief and i think you will find the post from Garry nails it. Basically, the tablet market, if the operating system does not run native on a PC considers it to be a glorified smartphone. In regards to Flash, our interactions with Adobe have acknowledged that they are motivated towards marketplace apps and not plugin based app meaning native apps on Android as .apk for example and not webbased, thus the non existence of the video object to broadcast from a plugin based app.
I tried iSwifter a few months back and was totally unimpressed. I recall that it was slow and rendered jerky animations. Unless something has changed since then, or you are viewing flash content that is relatively static, it is NOT the answer to our prayers.
I had a similar experience. In addition it interferes with the workflow. I work in the healthcare environment and just notice that the VA hospital just purchased 100,000 iPads to facilitate a more streamlined approach. In a similar fashion the FAA has approved iPads for commercial pilots. Articulate is fading from this market and we have moved on to other platforms. However, I continue to patronize the site, because I still like the product and occasionally use it and hope that my customers don't have an iPad.
Same thing here. Two weeks ago one of my major clients not only purchased iPads for the sales staff so that they could access training on the go, but the company is in the process of converting from PC to Mac. And this is a company with 11,000 global employees! To remain competitive, I've had to switch away from Articulate for my Mac-and-iPad-based clients.
Bob, Vicki... what are you using for content development? Especially the kind of self-contained interactive narrated animation that Articulate is so good at?
So many alternatives are still Flash based, most of the so called HTML5 options are really pointless... one could simply build content directly in the LMS or use dreamweaver to achieve the same results. The Articulate Storyline beta is promising, but I haven't seen HTML5 export capability yet.
I appreciate the referral to another product to provide what articulate does not. Generally speaking, when we keep seeing suggestions for "work around solutions" we interpret that to mean obsolescence and figure the management team is squeezing the EBIDA instead of supporting the evolution of the product.
We are actively working on new versions of all of our products that will support iOS. We are not updating Studio '09 to support iOS devices. So there will be a new version of Studio that supports iOS and a new product called Storyline that will also support iOS. Let me know if that makes sense or if you need some more clarification about how we are handling iOS support.
This is helpful to me as I am just now starting to design in Articulate and wonder about the iPad. I'm thrilled about Storyline and my clients are buying a lot of Articulate based training right now. I see some salesforces going to iPads...but the vast majority still have laptops. I do email training for F500's and they're still on laptops and even desktops. Personally, if you told me that I would have to do all my work via iPad it would slow me down.....i like my PC in some ways..:o) .but maybe I am missing it...I'm pretty focused on my clients...all of which own LMS PC based Flash technology that they want to work.
I use Articulate to build interactive experiences and animations that include audio, branching, assessments, etc... not just a slide show with audio track
Clients don't want an alternative (dumbed down) version of the training for iPad users... they want the full deal.
BIG pharma sales, real-estate sales, students, financial planners... they are all going iPad/tablet
Hoping Storyline HTML5 export is actually functioning by the time I need to start making tech recommendations to a few clients in early January. I am not impressed with any HTML5 products out there (looked at the captivate conversion demos... they where all broken, rapid intake is another "slideshow frame"), Lectora is the only CURRENT option I see on my radar to develop courses with interactivity and quizzes, etc. while sticking with HTML. I am hoping Storyline proves to be the better, more affordable product overall.
I'm excited about the POTENTIAL of Storyline, or even an upgrade of Articulate that supports HTML5.
I LOVE the captivate style screen recording and variables in Storyline.
Do NOT LOVE missing motion path animation support (which is a HUGE issue for the kinds of courses I build which often require some basic "simulation" or animation of a point along a data curve, a moving pointer on a map, etc.)
Looking at Adobe Edge... I see no reason motion paths are not supported
I have not yet seen how all the goodness of Storyline will actually translate to HTML5 so I'm not totally sold yet... i.g. Rapid Intake's HTML5 export is so limited I consider it nearly useless compared to what I can do with Articulate
I'm currently moving into a mixed environment. I'm still producing AP content using PP, but I'm also going to conventional .mp4 videos. A company in Scandanavia has a video player that plays using HTML5. It's called Sublime and I'm testing with it now. It checks the browser and also can render as flash. So, I'm creating some sites, webapps really, that deliver video on conventional computers as well as iPads.
I would much rather stick with AP, but I'm starting to leave too many potential customers out of the loop. I'm anxiously waiting on Storyline just like everyone else. Are there any sample presentations out there developed with it? I'd sure like to know what to expect (or not expect).
Hi Russ. If you are interested in being a part of the beta for Storyline, you can send an email to beta@articulate.com. I can't guarantee an invite to the beta but it doesn't hurt to put in a request! We haven't really shared much outside of the beta regarding Storyline specifics due to the beta's Non Disclosure Agreement.
@Alexander: Thanks for the feedback. Also, just a reminder to please keep any discussion of specific Storyline features to the beta forum, per the NDA (this is not it).
We're happy to have you join our community! We're here to offer you help, tips, guidance, ideas and anything else you may need to become an e-learning Hero. Welcome!
Story line is a mythical unicorn, last "officially mentioned" about 9 months ago. However, nobody has seen it since then.
As frustrated as I have expressed myself to be at what seems like 'tease promotion', I can tell you that the guys (and girls!) at Articulate are working hard to produce a product that will adequately (and correctly) give you what you're looking for.
In the meantime, have you guys signed up to be beta testers for Storyline? See below:

as for release dates, etc? don't know, but i wish i did.
probably like you, i am one of those people whose e-learning department is waiting for the other shoe to drop so that plans can be made, etc.
I can say it is definitely real. I had an hour long Skype with Articulate today about some issues I had with the beta. Most of which were all me not using it properly. They are very focused on turning out a quality product and were keen to help me with my project and the software. They also listened patiently to wishlist

Agree with James, Articulate are listening, Storyline will change the rapid elearning world!
Besides the Articulate staff working their tails off (and doing great work BTW), there's been quite a few beta testers who have been pounding hard on the product, devoting a lot of their time to helping Articulate realize Storyline, some of us since early July.
I can appreciate how frustrated some folks might be tempted to be because they can't see what's going on behind the veil of beta testing. However, a potential game changing product of this nature takes time to get right for the first version, IMVHO.
Rather than get upset for how long it's taken--I'd advocate instead appreciating the fact that Articulate wants to produce the highest quality product possible from the start and is taking the time to do it right.
This is not easy work. The difficult takes some time and the miraculous takes just a little longer.

If you're interested iSwifter runs Flash on iPad.
It's a bit slow but it works Depends what you need:)
Wow! No anwer since January. Not good. Maybe you have already done this but try using Iswifter app and run Articulate inside: http://iswifter.com/
The skyfire browser also plays this content well.

You can actually view content created with the current version of Articulate Studio '09 by following the steps outlined here:

And as previously mentioned, all of our future products will support iOS devices.

Yeah, it's real and it works really good. AP developers are really going to like it.
