Articulate Presenter '09 will not publish zip files

Oct 18, 2012

One of my end users is having an issue publishing zip files in Articulate.  She selects the option to zip and nothing happens.  No errors, no indication that the application is doing anything.

Her source and publication directories are separate, and I tried running the trace utility - launching it prior to launching Powerpoiint - and it locks up and stops recording when she tries to zip the file.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Brad!

Do you know what operating system she's using? If she's using Windows XP or Windows 2000, she'll need to install Windows Script 5.7.

I found this information in the support knowledge base, here.

Let me know if this helps!

Have a great day,

Christine

Sorry, I forgot to mention that she is using Windows 7 Professional.

Hi Brad,

Do you know if she's attempting to manually zip the file, or if she's using the Presenter's Package option?

Make sure she's using the following steps:

  1. In PowerPoint 2010, click File -> Save and Send -> Articulate Package.
In PowerPoint 2007, click on the Microsoft Office button. Select Send -> Articulate Package.
In PowerPoint 2000, 2002, 2003, go to File -> Send to -> Select Articulate Presenter Package.
  2. The Articulate Presenter Package dialog box opens.
  3. Select the location where you want the package to be created. You can also specify optional Package Notes, including the project name, the version number, the author of the project with email and other special instructions.
  4. Click on Create Package.
  5. A dialog box tells you if the package was successfully created, giving you the option to view the folder with the package files.

It may be easier to share this link with her. It contains more information and a video on how to create the package for easy sharing.

I hope this helps,

Christine

Thanks for the response Christine.

The steps she's taking are a little different, but she's still using the built-in zip functionality.

  1. Articulate Tab inPowerPoint>Publish
  2. Select >LMS
  3. Select>Publish
  4. When it is finished thereis a  new window with an option to click labeled ZIP

Would that make a difference?

Hi Brad,

Sorry for the trouble. For zip creation to work properly, the full directory path of the publish location needs to be less than 256 characters in length, including the name of the zip file itself.

Also, please be aware that working on a network drive or publishing to a network drive can cause erratic behavior. You should edit and publish your content on your local hard drive (typically, your C: drive).
If neither of those seem to be the issue, please feel free to submit a case using the link below so our support team can assist you further:

Thanks!

This was exactly it.  I had her zip it to her desktop and it worked like it was supposed to.

Thanks!
