Articulate v13 upgrade issues

Feb 16, 2015

Hello, I wonder if anyone can offer some assistance. As an organisation we have recently updated our Articulate suite from version 09 to version 13. We are experiencing several issues when updating content from version 09 to version 13.

We have a couple of hundred courses produced in Articulate version 09 and none of the Quizzes (all between 1-10 questions) that have been created in version 09 will open in Articulate version 13.

When a we attempt to open a quiz we get the standard message saying do we wish to upgrade it to version 13, then we select the yes button and then a message box appears stating ‘There was an error upgrading the quiz’. This happens both if the quiz is opened direct from the Quizmaker 13 and if it is attempted to be upgraded via Presenter 13 it just does not open/convert.

As a work around we decided that any quiz would have to be created again from scratch in version 13 but this is not an ideal situation and time consuming.

The second issue that we have relates to when we try to publish a document to Word (either direct from Presenter or via Engage), the publishing wizard starts as expected (and making sure the publishing location is not the same as the location files are stored) we get a message box stating ‘The folder <name of interaction> is read-only, being used by another process or you do not have the proper security permission to access this resource’.

We do work in an organisation that is strict with security permissions and quite a lot of restrictions are in place. It is therefore not possible for us to work directly from the C:, the Articulate software is installed onto the C: but as a user we are forced to work not directly on the C: - I have incidentally managed to access the C: and have again tried to Open a v9 quiz (by copying direct to c:) but to no avail, and also again copied an engage interaction to c: and tried to publish to Word but with the same end result.

It will not be a straight forward task for us to have restrictions/settings changed and the process to arrange this will take months (if it is accepted by governance).

Are both of these issues linked and if so, what settings would need to be lifted to allow for these functions of Articulate to be completed successfully?

Hi Mark!

When creating, editing, and publishing Articulate Presenter '13 courses, be sure you're working on your local hard drive (typically your C: drive). Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, such as file corruption, an inability to save changes, and loss of resources. See this article for more information.

Also, when you are moving/sharing files, be sure that you are doing this with an Articulate Package so that all of the resources stay together.

The issues you are reporting are not very common and it is probably due to your environment.

Perhaps others in the community have some suggestions for you when they work in an unsupported environment.
