articulate vs goto meeting

Jan 10, 2012

I've built a tutorial that I use to give live classes. I need to develop a tutorial with audio so I can send it to our field offices for the same training. The field offices would be watching the training independently, not in a class. My supervisor wants to use GotTo meeting to just record the training (this isn't live training we are recording at this point, it's me sitting there giving the training over GoTo meeting so we can record it). I've suggested that we just use Articulate to make audio for the training I've already developed. She asked me to give pros of cons of using Articulate vs. GoTo meeting to do this. Can you tell me what are some of the advantages and disadvantages of using Articulate over GoTo meeting?

Hi Terri-

Comparing our products with GoToMeeting is like comparing apples and oranges.

GoToMeeting is a synchronous screen-sharing tool (which yes, allows you to record what you're doing on your screen). It's a great product and we use it for live sales and support demos with our customers -- to show what you can do with our software -- but it's far from a competitor to our products.

Our products, on the other hand, are specifically designed to create interactive, multimedia-rich, asynchronous training content, which your users can access anytime and interact with (recorded GoToMeeting sessions provide no interactivity).

I'd suggest creating a demo of your tutorial in both products and showing the results to your supervisor. Hopefully the results would speak for themselves.

You can also have your supervisor review our Community Showcase to get a sense for what's possible with our tools.
