Audio Editor doesn't work

Aug 14, 2014

Dear colleaques

I found that if I add a lot of video and as a result, ppta file size become more than 200 Mb, - Audio Editor fails to operate and all the applications (Presenter and Powerpoint) freeze. My questions are:

1. Am I the only one who's got such kind of mellfunction?

2. Is thise problem real?

3. How to solve this... problem?

Thanx a mln in advance!

Hi konstantin and welcome to E-Learning Heroes!

Is this all happening in a specific project or across all projects? What about the files that you are adding, are you trying to add the same ones?

Just curious if there is some corruption somewhere in what you are working with.

If you are having problems in general, you may want to conduct a repair of your software.

There are a lot of posts about problems with Audio Editor and the vast majority of the responses from Articulate are exactly the same-repair and make sure your files are on the C drive.

It may not be a comfort but you are not alone. The latest update helped a little, but was not a total fix for me.

  • My files are directly on my C Drive, and synced through Dropbox with my team
  • The .ppta files can range from 40 to 90 mg
  • All files have been converted from previous versions of PPT to PPT 13 (I use Office 365)
  • All files have been converted from Studio 09 to Studio 13

With the latest update Audio Editor seems to initially launch more reliably.

However, after being in the editor for a bit of time, to do regular editor tasks (remove and add spaces, copy and paste audio from one slide to another, adjust animation timing) I will reach a point where selected audio will not play. As my mouse isn't frozen, I am able to save and return to presentation, losing of course the audio tasks I launched the editor for in the first place!

Once the audio editor is frozen it often won't launch again cleanly. Before the update it wouldn't launch, now it launches but is buggy.

Whatever is causing the audio editor to freeze in the first place seems to be hanging up the whole .ppta file.

My work around is to save the file and completely close out of PPT. Then reopen the last version of the file and start over.
