Audio missing and images not publishing

Jan 09, 2014

I do not know whether these two issues are related or not. I have been trying for days to resolve my publishing problem. My colleagues have successfully published my lesson, but when I publish, all images and some shapes are missing.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled Studio, Office and Flash. Nothing seems to help. :(

At the same time, my audio has been disappearing. I have already imported and edited it two times. I don't know what to do anymore.

Hi Alison,

Sorry to hear about the trouble you've had with this!

It sounds like the issue may be related, but lets try and figure out whether this is an issue with the project, or the installation.

First, it sounds like a project that's been shared with a few colleagues. Please make sure that you're working with local project files:

  • Work on your local drive (your C: drive). Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, including file corruption, loss of audio, and other unexpected behavior.
  • You should also make sure the directory path to your project files and your published output is less than 260 characters (for example C:\Articulate).
  • Avoid using special characters, accents or symbols in your file names (this includes spaces and underscores).

Additional information regarding "Naming Files, Paths, and Namespaces" in Windows operating systems can be found in the following Microsoft article.

Also, if you create a new, blank presentation, does the same thing happen?

Which version of Studio and PowerPoint are you currently using? Do you know if you're using the 32-bit installation of Office?

If you could check those points for me and share that information, it would help us narrow the issue down a little.

Thanks!

Alison Martin

Christine,

Thank you for your help. I am working off my C: drive. I am having the same behavior with all the files I have tested, including a new file I created with the name "test".

I am using Studio 09 and PowerPoint 2010 32-bit.

I forgot to mention in my original post that I am also unable to preview any slides. When I click on Preview, nothing happens.

Hi Alison,

Thank you for getting back to me and for sharing the additional information.

If you're working locally, audio is missing and you're unable to preview, we may need to do some additional troubleshooting.

Do you have administrative rights on your machine? If not, it might be best to request this from your IT department (if you're working with one), or try right-clicking on the shortcut for Presenter and select "Run as administrator".

Please try the troubleshooting steps outlined in the following article:

The Articulate Tab on the PowerPoint Ribbon Is Missing

(This should also resolve an unresponsive Articulate Ribbon and may improve the overall performance of the ribbon.)

I know you mentioned you've already reinstalled. However, if you haven't followed the steps outlined in the article below, please give it a try:

Unexpected or Erratic Behavior in Articulate Studio

Let me know if you try all of those suggestions and still have trouble.

Thanks!

Hi Alison,

Shoot! Sorry to hear that you're still having trouble with this.

Just to confirm, you experience all these issues with any files, correct? Even new, blank presentations?

What version are you currently running? Make sure you have the most recent version (Update 9 (6.3.1303.2214) installed. You can download the latest update here:

Articulate Studio ’09 Update 9

Do you have administrative rights on your machine, or do you have an IT department that manages the machine and your privileges?

I'm not sure if this will help, but if you haven't already, try right-clicking the shortcut for Presenter '09 and select "Run as Administrator". Let me know if that improves the performance and preview issue you're running into.

It may also help to review the minimum requirements for '09:
