Audio works in preview but not when published

Apr 24, 2014

I have a presentation originally created in Presenter '09 which I updated and therefore, upgraded to '13.  There was already existing audio (which was added the Articulate tab - Record Narration).  I had to add and modify some of the narration.  If I go to "Edit  Audio" I can view and play all of the audio files and they sound fine.  If I preview the slides the audio is all there.  However, if I publish the file, there is no audio playing.

I have been using Articulate Studio for over 2 years and have never seen this behaviour - any suggestions?  I am running everyhthing locally and the file is saved to my hard drive.  I renamed the file when I upgraded to the '13 version.

Thanks for any help!

Hi Sue,

First, can you tell me how you're viewing the published presentation, please? Are you viewing the published output files locally, or are you uploading to a web server or LMS?

If you're viewing your published files locally, this may be the problem. If you view a published Studio '13 or '09 presentation on your local hard drive or send it to someone else to view on their local hard drive, you'll encounter security restrictions from the computer, web browser, Flash Player, and network that'll cause various features of your content to fail.

To properly test your published content and share it with others, upload it to the environment for which it was published. Please review the article below for more information:

Tips for Managing Project Files

  • I suggest using SCORM Cloud for your course - it's a great place to test SCORM content.
  • Another option would be to use our Tempshare server. Just keep in mind that this server is only available for testing content - it is not officially supported by Articulate and all content will be removed automatically after 10 days.
  • You're always welcome to try out Articulate Online, as well - it's available for a free 30 day trial.

If you upload to a server and test, and you're still unable to hear the audio, are you able to share an Articulate Package? I'd be happy to take a look and see what's happening.

Thanks!

THAnks for the tips.  I have tried playing both locally and published to our videomedia server (where I publish all my Articulate presenter presentations) and the result is the same - no audio.  I created the package but couldn't attach to this message - nothing seems to happen.  Is there another way I can get the file to you?

Success!  I was finally able to resolve the problem by doing the following:

  • Exported my audio from the presentaiton I was working on
  • Created a new, blank presentation
  • Reused the slides from the original presentation and pulled them into the new
  • Imported the audio that I had exported

Once I did this and published, everything worked fine.  I am noticing some odd behaviour with presentaitons created in 09 and then edited in 13 - so I am wondering if it was just something with that.  One thing that I have had consistently happen with every 09 presentation I edit in 13 and I try to record narration, the screen loads but I don't have access to my mouse and can't do anything.  So, I need to go to Task Manager and end the application.  I  noticed I have the icon in my task bar for Articulate annotations - which I cannot close.  So, I reboot,  go to slides where I have annotations and remove them - this seems to resolve the issue.

In any event, my presentation does seem to work now - with sound!  Thanks for your suggestions and offer to help!
