Banging my head against the wall

Nov 16, 2011

Hi, and firstly thanks for taking the time to read my post.

My problem is thus:

I've made four modules of learning, each with their own interactions. However, I'm really struggling to sort out my interactions after returning to them.

I'm having the dreaded issue with Engage and Quizmaker not being able to find my interactions, even if I specify exactly where they are.

This really is a huge flaw. What should be a simple task is making me tear my hair out as I try and try again to get it to work. I'm working on a remote network folder - which I have to do, as I'm at work and we can't just keep content on our own hard drives.

Does anyone have any ideas about the following?

1. How can I specify where the Engage interactions and Quizmaker quizzes sit?

2. Know why I still get the error message, even when I specify exactly where the files are?

Thanks in anticipation of a response.

Matt are you renaming your ppt file outside of ppt?  This can cause the ppta and ppt file to be disassociated.  Or are you moving the engage files after you create them

Working on the network drive is likely the problem though, as it uses aboslute links and these will change each time you connect to the network drive

This may help http://www.builtbyburton.com/?p=552 (but dont think it works for remote drives

For q1 you need to do it for every interaction unfortunately

For q2 may be the reasons above,

Studio does not support working from usb or network drives

Thank you Phil, that's really useful. I appreciate you replying so quickly!

For the present, I've copied all the files over to my local drive and I'm editing on there. I'll then put copies on the network, and copy them back down every time I need to make edits.

I understand now what the problem is, but I stand by my assertion that this is a massive flaw. Perhaps in future versions of the software it will be made easy to just provide a link to where the external files are. I hope that all my theming isn't going to be ruined by this...
