Best way to upload to moodle
Aug 27, 2012
Greetings,
I'm looking for best way to upload articulate presentation to moodle. The only things I've done are:
1. Upload articulate folder to my own web server and link to it from within moodle. What I don't like about this is that any of my students could simply copy paste all of my links into a Word doc or something and have them forever...even if they're not in moodle anymore.
2. SCORM. The only way SCORM seems to work requires student to enter a clunky looking page and find the 'enter' button. My students just won't take that step...they need to be able to just click and go.
Guess I'm hoping there's a better way to get articulate content into moodle than the two options I described.
Thanks
Jerry

Which version of noodle are you using and do you want students to be able to access content through mobile player? I have used it in moodle 1.97 with good luck and could help you with that.

Hi Tim
I'm in version 2.x (not sure exactly which) of moodle. And no, I don't care about mobile players at the moment.
Thanks
Jerry
Hi Jerry,
We haven't used SCORM much in the past because we usually want to record student's responses to free text (essay questions) that can be passed as complete without grading (we use Questionmark Perception for this capability, but would love to hear other suggestions!).
Anyway, sorry for the rambling, but in response to your question, I:
Hope this is helpful!

Thank you so much. I'm just reengaging with articulate after a few years away, so a little rusty. When you say 'zip the files' do you mean publish for web directly to a zip from articulate or do you publish to a folder then manually zip up the folder containing all the files?
Second...and maybe stupid question...but once your presentation is in moodle and playing, could someone (in moodle, of course) simply capture the hyperlink to the articulate presentation and save it somewhere to access later outside of moodle?
Thanks,
Jerry
Hi Jerry
After you have published your articulate to the web it will give you the option to "zip" it, so you can do it this way. You can however do it manually - this will also work.

Incredibly (incredible only because these things never seem to work as smoothly as they should for me), the file worked EXACTLY as you suggested! Also, I was able to answer my own question about security...users can't keep links for later access...can only be played in moodle.
awesome! thanks again.
Jerry
Hi Jerry,
So glad it worked well for you, and that Julie was able to answer your question about zipping (Don't worry I'm a bit rusty in some areas too - I usually forget that there is the zip option within Articulate and end up doing it manually!)
Happy to discuss any other Moodle related interactions as this is what I'm using the most at the moment...
Cheers,
Astrid
yeah, i'm pretty much moodlle-ized myself. i was glad to see how easy it was to load directly into moodle. Curious, do you have any experience embedding an articulate presentation into moodle 'page'?
(hope I can return favor some day)
Jerry
Actually I've had a lot of trouble with moodle Pages (linking files, not Articulate in particular)! It was earlier in the year so I don't remember the exact circumstances, but the main problem was that Moodle converted the links or images into 'draftfile' php links when you were in edit mode, which made it unworkable. (I think we had existing html pages with links that had been transferred into Moodle from WebCT.)
At that point I gave up on a Moodle Page, as using the file upload in a similar way to above seemed to be much easier.
OOPS, just noticed that "Julie" had contributed to this discussion....thanks Julie. It's good to see other Articulate/Moodle devotees. Are there more of us and, if so, do they "hang out" in any particular place in the community?
Hmm, I haven't had trouble with Page... i use it quite a bit, but mostly just for text and links (to files in moodle and other web pages). No real issues.
Jerry;
I have used iframes to embed into a moodle page with no problems.
This comes from a moodledoc;
To create an iframe,
just replace the src with the location of your file in moodle and you can change the height and width to fit your presentation. I tend to close all the blocks on the right to give me more room for this.
Tim
Thanks Tim. Haven't worked with iframes much but know someone who does (and in moodle). will give it a shot.
Jerry
I just noticed the code did not come through but if you do a search for I frames moodle it will take you to this moodledoc.
Tim
thanks Tim.. I'll check it out.
this solution worked realy well for me also.
the down side is you have to upload like this for every course,
i am using 2.3 so had hoped i would be able to use the alias/shortcut system in the file picker and just upload only once but use the same resource for many courses.
if you have a solution for this i would love to hear it.
Kim
just answered my own question on how to make a non scorm storyline resource available to many moodle courses without having to upload it into each course.
1. create a specific course for the storyline resource
2. upload the storyline resource to this course as a file resource using the instructions above
3. play the file and make a note of the moodle url.
4 add a play graphic to the other courses - such as a play button or text such as play now
5. add a link to the text/play button in the html editor pasting in the url above
NEXT
Go back to the specific storyline resource course and in the settings / course users - enrolment methods add metacourse from the drop down list and select the course you want the resource to appear in. students will automaticall be enroled to the course
rinse and repeat for all courses that need the resource.
Astrid
Thanks heaps..... as jerry said... it did what it said on the tin....now for how to get it to play on an ipad
