Call Outs Change Position

Jul 17, 2013

...and my issues with this project's text continues...

The issue I'm having is that my call outs are moving around when I publish my presentation. To be more clear, I have text boxes placed over call-outs that are supposed to fade in with the narration. When I just preview the slide show with PowerPoint, the animations are showing up in the exact spot I put them in the slide show and everything looks fine. When I sync my narration, the animations still show up correctly and the text box is centered over the call out.

When I go to preview or publish (have tried both a few times now) this project, the call outs move down or to the side, sometimes both, as if I put them in the wrong spot to begin with (see below for screenshots to demonstrate what's happening).

I'm not having the moving issues with any of my text boxes (even with the call outs the text boxes are staying in place), and I've tried both animating each part individually (first the text, then the callout, or first the call out, then the text) and grouping and animating as one, but it keeps showing up moved.

This happens with all of my call outs but no other objects or images. Is there a workaround for this or a way to predict where the boxes will end up?

Hi Whitney,

I'm not sure if this will help, but I have noticed that in Flash, sometimes you have to position an object based on how it is looking when published, and not how it looks in production. Since Storyline is essentially the same "platform" (Storyline = Flash),  I've noticed the issue there as well. What you may have to do is work off of the published version to establish the correct layout, even though it won't look correct when you are viewing the screen in production. Does that make sense?

I believe the root cause of this is the way Flash is pixel snapping objects, but that's just a guess.

Edit: Sorry Whitney, I did not realize this post wasn't in the Storyline Forums.

Julia - I was hoping that wasn't the answer :( I can do that, there are just a lot of instances of it happening so I'm trying to avoid it. Thanks for the feedback even though it's not storyline - I imagine it might be the same case in Presenter, too.

Justin - check out my attachment. The slide I screenshoted has a lot of stuff on it so this is a simpler version where the moving occurs.
