Can menu navigation be part restricted and part free?

Apr 23, 2014

I want users to go through the first section of my Presenter deck in linear fashion, but after that I want to open up the remainder as optional with freedom to choose slides.

Is this possible with Presenter '13 or is it all or nothing?

Hi there Eric,

You can select different navigation options for every slide in your project. For example, you can have the first 5 slides set to "Locked" navigation and then make the next section set to "Free". This would mean that learners can't jump around in the first 5 slides, but they can navigate any way they'd like in the slides set to "Free".

To set this up in Presenter '13, click on "Slide Properties".

Select the slide you'd like to change.

On the right-hand side, under "Properties: Navigation:", click on the hyperlink to change the navigation selection.

It should look something like this:

Let us know if you have any questions, or any trouble with this.

Thanks!

Christine,

Thanks for your illustrated reply.  If I set a series of slides to free, I understand the user will be able to navigate freely WITHIN each slide, but will they also be free to jump around BETWEEN those slides if my overall player menu options are set to restricted?

I believe I need the restricted menu option in order to require users to go through the first set of slides sequentially.  Am I correct?

Hi Eric!

Setting the slides to Free Navigation does allow the user to maneuver between those slides. Setting a different setting in the slide properties will allow you to override those set in your player.

Yes, you would need the restricted navigation to be sure that your learners were not able to advance/skip as they wish.
