Can't find SWF file

Jan 06, 2012

Hi,

After I publish for the web, I can't find a SWF file that combines all files I need so I can publish the single file to my server.

Hi Tracy, welcome to Heroes!

Sorry for misunderstanding, but I don't think I'm quite sure what you're asking. It sounds like you're hoping to publish your course to your server, but in order to publish correctly, you will need more than a single SWF file. Have you had a chance to review the steps here?:

Thanks! I guess I was confused because when I used Articulate several years ago, I just uploaded a SWF and an playerHTML file to my website and it played fine. Maybe that was a previous version and things have changed in '09?

Peter, I checked out that link and the information was useful. The video says there is another video available that shows you how to upload the presentation to the web (since the video I watched just covered publishing it). I didn't see a link to it. Do you have the link?

Tracy Jones

Thanks, Peter. I had read that already. I was looking for the video on the topic, since the previous video said there would be another one. But maybe the information at that link is all I need.

I'm still confused though about why in the past I was able to upload just a single SWF file and and HTML player and play a presentation off my website. Just want to make sure there isn't something important I'm missing.

Oops, sorry Tracy! Must be Friday

Here you go:

And not so sure about older versions, but Articulate will output an HTML launch page and 2 folders containing lots of SWFs, javascript and XML files, all of which are required for playback to work as expected.

Hope that's more on point. Have a great weekend!

By the way, every time I log into eLearning Heroes, I search to find the link to post a new question and have trouble finding The reason I'm writing this here is because I can't find it again. Usually I have no problem finding this when I'm in a forum, but in this case I'm probably overlooking the obvious. Can you please tell me where it is?

Thanks.

Tracy Jones

I uploaded a course to our site but am still not able to play it via a link. It's a Joomla site. I'm not sure if that makes a difference. The previous administrator, who I don't have access to, renamed all the "player.html" files "index.html." When I keep the file name player.html, I get a "location not found" type screen. When I change the name to index.html, a generic articulate slide opens which is not related to the presentation I created. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Tracy

Hi Tracy!

Sounds like it may be an issue with your directory path. Here are some tips for managing your files which can help prevent issues.

1.  Work on your local drive (your C: drive). Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, including file corruption, loss of audio, and other unexpected behavior.

2. You should also make sure the directory path to your project files and your published output is less than 260 characters (for example C:\Articulate).

3.  Avoid using special characters, accents or symbols in your file names.

Also, are you able to post a screenshot of the "generic Articulate slide" you're seeing? That might help me pinpoint exactly what the issue is...

Thanks!

Hi Tracy,

Thanks for the screenshot. Have you been able to play the presentation without issue locally? That screen you're seeing is symptomatic of XML files being corrupted during the upload to your server. To correct this behavior, you'll want to be sure to use either use the FTP upload feature of Articulate Presenter, or set your FTP application to upload files as binary. Uploading the XML files in ASCII or Auto mode may cause corruption. Here's where you can learn more:

I hope that's helpful!
