Can we mute audio by default in Presenter

Dec 05, 2012

I want to have narration available for specific slides, but want to have it muted by default, so that the user can turn the audio on if they want to listen to the text.  Is there any way of doing that?

Thanks in anticipation,

Michelle

Hi Michelle,

I'm not sure if this would work for you, but Brian Batt posted a suggested method for muting slide audio on presentation load. It's an older post, but I think it looks pretty interesting! Check it out

I'm sure that some of our awesome community members have a few tricks up their sleeves that may help with this. Maybe a few can chime in and offer some suggestions

Good luck! I'm curious to see how this works out for you.

The one thing I can see that might be a little off would be that the audio is still playing for the slide even though it is muted. So they would only be controlling the volume, and not the actual playing of the audio. To get the full audio for the screen, they would have to reply the slide from the beginning after turning the audio up, yes?

Now you could create a small audio playing swf file with audio in it for the screens the user could click to hear the audio from the beginning no matter where the slide was. But then you have a timing issue, unless it is a static slide with no animations on it.

Thanks for your suggestions Christine and Dwayne.  You're right Dwayne I need to turn if off, not just mute it!  The slides that I want to apply audio to don't have animations in them, so I'm trying your suggestion Dwayne.  I've made an swf audio and inserted it in the slide but it plays automatically - how do I set it so that it only plays when clicked on?

Thanks again,

Michelle
