Captivate swf videos on 'fast forward'

Feb 17, 2012

So, this is driving me crazy.  It's not just me, others in my team are having the same issues.

We are using Captivate 5 to do screen captures.  These are published as flash (player 9 or 10) and then we want to insert them in our e-learning module to show learners how to do the processes we are talking about.

What happens, is we insert the video - and on the preview, it plays in real time.

When we then preview or publish the module - and we have tried both 'to LMS' and hosted the zip, or 'to web' and publishing a flash player file - and the video is out of control.

The recording we really need to get to work is about 1:20 long - but it plays in fast forward, so it's a 5 second super fast loop over and over.  And it seems to display a box 'created using captivate' between each few frames of the video.  Honestly, it's enough to give us a fit!

I've followed the instructions here:

http://community.articulate.com/tutorials/products/adding-a-movie-to-a-slide.aspx

And have tried every combination of button in the limited settings for the movie, but it all results in the same.

The Captivate output looks fine, I've republished a few times.

Anyone have a clue what's going on?

Phil, thank you!  I didn't realise they weren't compatible - I've submitted my ticket and am sure this will be in the next release, if Articulate's track record for listening to customers is anything to go by.

For anyone who happens across this post, here's the answer:

If I had just searched for 'captivate 5' instead of 'flash' I would have come across plenty more information.  As I can't watch screenr from work  (strange firewall settings, they just seem moody to me) I found this article was really helpful: http://daveperso.mediaenglishonline.com/2010/11/02/using-articulate-web-objects-and-captivate-5

I've tested and it WORKS.  The only bit missing from his instructions is that when you publish from Captivate, you may have to tick the 'publish to folder' option - I was working from my desktop while testing the theory, and Articulate wouldn't find the .index file unless you gave it the folder that file was in.

Thank you articulate community - much appreciated!
