Changing Presenter timing for slide with timed animation

Feb 24, 2011

I have several slides in my course that are timed PPT animations (in between quizzes and Engage interactions).  The animations on these slides are set up to change automatically with "after previous".  When I run the slide in the course, for some reason, Articulate adds on an extra 4-6 seconds to the slide after all the animations have already completed, so the user just has to sit there and wait for the slide to finish.  You would think that 4-6 seconds wouldn't be a big deal, but I have gotten feedback about this from several of my pre-launch testers.

Any idea how to tweak this?  I have tried changing the slide transition time, changing the animation times, etc.

Thanks for any ideas!

Hi Maria, and welcome! See if this helps:  open your presentation in PowerPoint, go to the Articulate menu, and choose Presentation Options. Then click the Publish tab on the left side of that window. Check the setting for the second field, circled below ("On mouse click animations without set timings display after ___ seconds.") . Try changing it to 1 or even 0, and then preview or publish.

Thanks Jeanette - Not trying to hijack this thread, but it seems idle enough to use as an intro...I'm new as well, and struggling with this exact same issue. Your solution solved the annoying "waits" at the end of each slide, but now my show goes way too fast during the presentation (because I've included click-dependent animations). So I assume it's "preferred" to avoid click-driven animations "inside" each slide and adjust those with "timing" instead? Basically...What techniques do you "pro's" use to ensure the trainees linger long enough during the slide, yet not have to wait that same length of time after the slide's done?

Thanks so much?

Thanks guys! I don't have a recorded narrative to "sync" it with, but it seems the technique will work just the same for "pacing" the slides themselves...and then drop the "On mouse click animations without set timings display after" to either 0 or 1 as described earlier. On the road now, but can't wait to try when I get back home.

Hi Daniel & welcome to Heroes,

Can you try using the method below to add your annotations?

  1. Open your presentation in PowerPoint.
  2. Select the slide you want to annotate.
  3. Navigate to Articulate > Sync Animations.
  4. Select the check box Show Annotation Tools.
  5. Click the Start Sync button.
  6. Use the annotation tools as desired.
  7. Click the Stop Sync button.
  8. Click the Save & Close button.

Hello.  I hope people don't get mad that I'm quoting an older thread, but I had the exact same problem as the poster of this thread did, and I just wanted to say that your solution, Jeanette, fixed my problem!!  It was such a quick solution and fixed the frustration I had been experiencing for quite awhile.  Thank you so much!
